Google Nexus 6P USB-C Charging

Re: Basically no quick charging for the 6p then?!!! 😬

There is so little info on Google's accessories page...

Is it safe to assume that this charger https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...s://store.google.com/us/?hl=en&token=Sm2DpA1q along with this adapter cable https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...o_usb_standard_a_adapter?hl=en&token=j1APDc5E would permit me to charge both a Nexus 6P as well as my Bluetooth earbuds by plugging the short adapter into the charger and the earbuds' standard USB-A to Micro-USB cable into the other end?

That should work fine.

Thanks.

I really dislike using adapter cables. It would be awesome to find a charger that had both USB-C and USB-A outputs. I did find a car charger that looks good ( Amazon.com: USB Type-C Car Charger,Tronsmart 36W Dual Rapid Ports Car Charger with Quick Charge 2.0 Technology.Attached USB Type C Cord for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X (5V/2.4A) (Additional 3.3ft Micro-USB Cord Inlucded): Computers & Accessories ). The manufacturer claims they have confirmed that the Nexus 6P sees it as Fast Charge capable and it also has Quick Charge 2.0.

Of course, I dislike the hard-wired USB-C cable, but oh well...

In about a month, there should be plenty of chargers that will have what you want. With USB C being so new, along with the unique charging of the 6p, it's going to take a little bit of time.

As for the Tronsmart, it only quick charges when you battery is below 40%. They are working on a new one that should meet your needs, but who knows when it will be released.

Re: Basically no quick charging for the 6p then?!!! 😬

Just got the charger that's being sold on the Google store. Also in the picture is the Motorola Nexus 6 turbo charger (left).

As you can, the 6p charger is substantially smaller and it takes up only 1 spot on a power strip! The cable is hard-wired into the charger. It feels solid and sturdy. This is not the charger that comes in the box with the 6p, but it is sold on the Google Store. I don't have my 6p yet so I can't try it.

As expected: Input 110-240VAC. Output 5V,3A

Re: Basically no quick charging for the 6p then?!!! 😬

charger looks a bit flimsy next to that moto charger. don't know why they didn't just have it detachable like the stock one...

Re: Basically no quick charging for the 6p then?!!! 😬

As an electrical engineer, connectors are the weakest link in any design. They wear out over time, and they may not be fully seated, all these things would cause charging speed to degrade. Hard-wiring is much more reliable. Hard wiring also prevents you from using an inferior USB cable that can't handle 3A.

well, they could've at least bulked up that terminal/interface

Re: USB-C Charging

What kind of cable or adapter would I need to use my current portable battery pack with the 6p

Re: Basically no quick charging for the 6p then?!!! 😬

The company told me they are coming out with 10 foot version of this cable next week

http://www.amazon.com/iOrange-E-Bra...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU4772400

I bought the 6' version of this and it appears to be a quality product. I haven't been able to use it yet, but assuming it works as expected, I may get more from them -- typically I buy Anker cables, but they didn't have anything at the 6' length.

I too bought the 6' cable from them. It seems very well built, so lets see how it holds up.

I have the 6' version for the 5x currently. The problem is it is only slow charging. This may be because every A charger I have is not a fast charger. Maybe some more research will be needed. I have not tried to plug the cord into the turbo charger from my moto x yet though.

the only chargers that will "fast charge" it are 5V/3A adapters that follow the USB Power delivery spec. A cable won't make a charger do what a charger is not designed to. That being said, it'll still charge at 2A, which is enough in most situations.
