Google Nexus 6P USB-C Charging

Re: USB-C Charging

Could I theoretically buy the OPT Type C cable and use it for the 6P? I'm still using an HP Pavilion laptop that I bought years ago, so basically I just want to charge the phone as normal, and then sync between the two devices when I need to. Suggestions are appreciated.

any cable that has the "normal" USB plug at one end and the USB C plug at the other will work, just like any existing phone cable, but with a new connector on one end.

Re: USB-C Charging

Sorry if this is a dumb question (or has been answered) but if I get a type C to type A cable, I can use it with my old chargers (Note 4) right? I don't care if it is fast charging.

Should work

Re: Basically no quick charging for the 6p then?!!! 😬

Calm down, they are coming. Not Huawei's fault that QC only works with micro USB at the moment. Not sure USB C needs it.

This says its USB C 3.1, so my question is, since the 6p is only USB C 2.0, will if give it the full 5v3a for fast charging?

Re: USB-C Charging

I went ahead and bought a genuine OPT Type-C to Type-A cable from AliExpress for $7.00. They have a 50% off promotion on there now.

From what I know, it should work. I believe the 6P's limitations with USB 2.0 are largely the data speed/throughput.

Re: USB-C Charging

Obviously it depends on what you are plugging into. Odds are for your existing equipment you will need some usb type c to type a cables like this one.

This may not be the popular opinion but I wouldn't keep investing in anything type a. The world is moving away from that and if you can I would avoid buying anymore than you have to. I plan on trying to get by with the 1 cable in the box and using type c to type c everywhere else.

I agree. I have a ChromeBook Pixel and having a type-c port has spoiled me. I think every new Android phone should be made with one. I like the Note 5 and the Moto XPE when I had it, but was disappointed in both phones for not having a type c connector.

Just built a new PC a few months ago and have a brand new motherboard with a type c connector, now I should finally be able to use it.

Although I never really connect my phone to that computer...

I'm with you, excited for the future.

Re: USB-C Charging

USB Type-C can carry higher power loads than previous USB types, but it MUST have USB Power Delivery specifications applied to get features such as "rapid" charging. This is try of the charger and the device as well as potential compliance by the cable (to prevent too much power going through them and causing a fire) So far I have seen NOTHING on the market, other than the devices sold in the Google Store as accessories to the NEXUS 5X or 6P that appear to meet the USB Power Delivery specification/compliance and provide the "Rapid" charging that you get with the NEXUS included accessories.

I suspect in the next 60 days or less there will be many more on the market. Until then I expect I will get only "Rapid" charging with the included charger/cable and that I will get "traditional" charging speeds with anything else I have.

Dang, I just built a new PC a few months ago also, but my motherboard doesn't have a type-c connector. I have USB-3 everywhere but no C connector. Having said that, I do have 3.0 & 2.0 connectors on the top front of my case, so using the short C to A cable that comes with the Nexus 6P won't be a problem.

I just built a 4790K setup a year ago. I figure it'll go to my fiancée in the next couple years and I'll go octa core and Type C will be more widely adopted by then.

Re: Qualcomm quick charge doesn't work with 6p!!

Disappointing. I was saving all of my Quick Charge 2.0 chargers (wall and car) that I was using with my Note 4. Can you even buy compatible 6P fast chargers from anyone now?

Amazon has one for $25.00!

Re: Qualcomm quick charge doesn't work with 6p!!

So I may have missed this in another thread, but I know good things have been said about the OnePlus USB c charging cables and chargers. I think Russell actually stated in his post (about his 6p review unit) that the One+ combo of cable and charger shows as "rapidly charging" on the 6p. I know they are all pretty much out of stock now, but when they do get back in stock, I'm not sure what I should be ordering from One+. Here are their cables and chargers: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...t%2Faccessories%2Fpower-cables&token=IXLa1iVq

The "Type 6 Cable" for $6.99 looks like it has USB C on one end, but what is that on the other end?? All the description talks about is USB C....I feel really dumb even asking about this, because it is probably something obvious, but I'm stumped.

Re: Qualcomm quick charge doesn't work with 6p!!

the other end is a regular USB Type-A end, but with a trick: it's reversible. There are pins on both sides.

Really? Why hasn't anyone else come up with that?!? Pretty cool, thanks.

Re: Qualcomm quick charge doesn't work with 6p!!

Are there USB Type A to USB Type C adapters available? I'm talking about the Type A with the small male connector end that are in 95% of phones today prior to this Type C coming out. I have seen the adapters where the Type A is the large rectangular USB connector we are all familiar with.

type A *is* the rectangular connector. That's the name of it. If we want to get technical, Type A is the rectangular connector, Type B comprises of both mini and micro USB, and Type C is the new connector.

There are micro-USB to Type C adapters, but your mileage may vary on whether those will actually work. There are reports on some of the chargers where the micro USB cable is built in and not detachable that an adapter might not work.
