Google Now keeps telling me that location service is off.

Did you reinstall all the updates after you factory reset? And does it still work?

Worked for me; reset the device and my apps are up to date.

I recommend that people use the HTC Backup app that's available for download from the Play Store to backup their device. It makes a back up of everything in Dropbox. Also when doing the factory reset, no need to erase internal memory.

You don't have to turn off fast boot to do a full power cycle, all that you have to do is press the restart option instead of shutdown. and I've tried it all - tried clear data, reboot, turn off all location settings and turn them back on, uninstall and reinstall, and even tried just leaving it not updated and even that didn't help. it would appear that the update changed something outside of itself although I have no idea that

For those of you with the issue, check under Settings >> Apps >> Running. You should see Google Services with the Location service running inside. Nothing I did got that service running again, even with everything checked.

One thing I noticed was that when I turned on the Google location check mark, it did NOT ask me to confirm my selection and agree to google's terms. When it works, there is a dialog box that should pop up when enabling Google location service.

Ever since the factory reset, it has been fine.

I had the exact same issue. Backed up, factory reset.

All working as normal.

Thanks for the advice.

Yes, most definitely if your still having the issue post hard reset, still post a comment on the forum post. Pretty sure Google borked something in the Google Play Service system set. I meant to ask Phil if he had this issue as well since he also uses an HTC ONE a lot as one of his daily drivers. Its more annoying more than anything else and makes checking in places and using certain apps a pain. Hopefully Google rectifies this sooner rather than later. Since this falls in there court for this issue not HTC.

I have the same problem as this. When i go into google now it says "Location service is off". When i go into maps it says "Please enable a My Location source in system settings"

So is this issue from Google service or from the device itself? I sure hope it's from the Google service. I don't want to factory reset my phone for this.

Ended up with this problem today after I restarted my phone. It had been fine for the last week. Doing a factory reset to see if that fixes it

Careful those of you who needed the patch to Media Link in order to connect. (ATT customers.) If you reset your phone, you lose the update and you cannot re-download it leaving your media link to gather dust. I ended up rooting and installing a fresh rom and thankfully Media link works now. (I didnt root/flash JUST to fix media link, but it was a nice side effect.)

I believe I resolved this issue on my ONE by just opening Google Maps and letting it find me. However, now it won't let me do that anymore, despite the fact that Maps has no problem finding my location on it's own.

so are you now saying not factory reset?

If you factory reset, you lose your patched Media Link app (for ATT customers who couldnt connect to the media link) and there is no way to get it back according to HTC until they release a system update.

I guess it depends on if you use Media Link at all? If not, then factory reset should do the trick. I was just putting the warning out there.

Now, if you are comfortable with rooting and installing your own Rom, CleanROM 2.5 is freakin awesome and has the patched media link APK included. Check out the ATT HTC one forums at xda if you want more info on that.

I'm having the same issues with Google Now, which has been happening a few days now.

Yeah I've had the problem for a while now, and I'm not factory resetting for Google now. Hopefully you guys are submitting feedback so it gets some priority with google.
