Google Now *Remind me* feature.

So maybe I don't fully understand this feature.
I make a reminder to call so and so at 9:00pm today via google now.
And....nothing happens unless I open up google now and see the reminder.
That's kind of useless. If I could remember to open google now at a certain time, then I wouldn't need something to remind me lol
Isn't there supposed to be some sort of notification chime at the reminder time?

Scroll all the way down when you go to Google Now, hit the 3 dot menu. Go to settings and then notifications. Make sure notifications is checked.
