It's good enough to make it preferred when available. Much faster/easier than CC chip reader payment. However, not anywhere close to universal access, so you'll need to carry cards.

Here in the UK I still carry cards even though NFC is almost everywhere as some smaller retailers still don't accept NFC payments.

Not sure if it's the same where you are but here in the UK for transactions <£30 then there is no need to unlock the phone, just tap and go. For transactions >£30 you need to unlock the phone first. TBH I unlock the phone regardless.

Definitely requires secure unlock verification. Otherwise anyone with access to your phone (if stolen, lost etc.) would have use of your credit card via GP.

I agree 100%. My only issue that some credit cards will not give me points and perks when using Google Pay.

Any idea why? and do you know if the Amazon Visa card is one of them?

No. Just unlock the phone and hold it to the reader.

Depends what part of the world you're in, here in the UK you don't need to unlock the phone for any transaction <£30.

It USED to be that way because under the first iteration the transaction showed up as a payment to Google rather than the retailer. That is no longer the case, because the transactions can be properly categorized the appropriate "points" can be awarded.

Except for running into the rare fickle NFC reader you'll find it super easy and fast to use. You'll be done with phone back in pocket well before you'd even have a CC out of wallet into a chip reader slot.

It's great whenever you can use it though. Online or in apps much better than your actual credit card number.. I use it for both Uber and Lyft, some others. Besides, Google already knows everything anyway.

Nope, not true as I'm in the UK and I've paid for items well over the £30 contactless card limit with Google Pay. That's one of the best features compared to contactless cards, must be your bank or the places you shop at limiting it.
