Did you copy from a previous device or do a fresh install? I did a fresh installI added my same Amex and used Google pay just this past Sunday at the supermarket. Didn't have any issue.
I copied over from my 3xl but had to add my Amex again since that didn't copy over.Did you copy from a previous device or do a fresh install? I did a fresh install

Did your card expire or something? Try adding a different card just in case. You can always delete it.Okay, I’ve looked up multiple options and can’t figure out what the issue is and why it’s not working.

Nope, been living at the same address for the last 9 years. I'll recheck everything in Google and the bank to make sureThe only thing I can think of is your personal info does not match what the bank has on record. Has your address and phone changed since you originally put the cards on the old phone?
Ok, I just added my discover card with no issues but my Amex and DC won't add.I did a fresh install on my wife's new Pixel 5 and had no issues with Google Pay.
This happened to me today as well. Couldn't add my USAA debit. I even called the bank to see if they could push it through. No luckJust added Discover card without any issues. It's my Amex and USAA debit that won't work. Head scratch
I gave up, I'll try again tomorrow through the appWell. I literally tried for the 20x time after giving it a few hours and it worked! I did it through the USAA app. Maybe they pushed an update?
Have you tried to add the cards to GPay on the web then complete the in-store payment confirmation on the phone?
Haven’t tried that but I will today. Thanks for the tips
Good point! I didn't notice the second screenshot last night. That's the message I received for years when adding our debit cards to G Pay. I had to call (or secure chat) my bank with every new phone and they verified the card on their end and I was able to finish setting it up in G Pay. Last year we received new security enabled chip cards and I don't have to call anymore to add to G Pay. But that second screenshot normally means you do have to contact the bank and they have to verify first.I'd call the banks that issued the cards. I work at a credit union and I have to activate the service on our end to complete set up for Google Pay/Samsung Pay and Apple Pay.
