I am seriously blown away at how well the Pixel 2 does in low light situations. Simply incredible.

One of my ultimate tests of low light photography is the Christmas tree with multi-colored lights on and no other lighting in the room. Eagerly awaiting folks to post those types of photos. Just to see how the Pixel 2 handles it.

I don't have a Christmas tree but the neighbor across the street does. It sits on his screened in patio (this is Florida). It is nine o'clock at night and pitch dark out. No street lights on my street and basically as dark as it can be. The only light is from the tree so I walked across the street and snapped a shot for you. I am certain that if I had not been shooting through a screen it would have been sharper.

Yes, that is impressive. Most phones would have blobs of colors for the lights. While the colored lights on this tree are not particularly sharp, neither are they amorphous blobs. I suspect the bright white lights on the bottom of the tree and the string about two-thirds up the tree is causing trouble with the camera's selection of exposure time. Had the tree been trimmed with only colored lights I bet they would be better defined. Shooting through the screen does not seem to bother the Pixel 2.

Thanks for posting this.

Wow, such clarity! Until I read your post, I had thought that you had been in the room!

Not a true Christmas tree(s), it's a bunch of trees outside that have lights put up. Was taken in the middle of the morning with no ambient lighting other than the moon. Didn't turn out as well as I hoped, but impressed with the detail, even when zooming in.
