Google Play downloaded movies disappeared

Hi everyone, wondering if anyone else has had this happen: I had about 20 Google Play movies downloaded to my Sandisk 128GB SD card which I would watch on my commute. This morning I only found the last movie I downloaded still on the SD card but all the others are gone! Need to download them again but this seems very weird? Not sure if I'll lose them again?

Any pictures I've taken and all the Google Play Music songs I've pinned in my SD card are still there so the card hasn't failed as far as I can tell.

I (and thousands of others, going by all the links found) am going through this, too. I bought (not rented, BOUGHT) movies and tv episodes and now, very suddenly, Google is saying to insert the original SD card. THIS is the original. I've been trying, daily, to download the shows I paid for, with no luck. I freed up 7 gb of space on my phone. Still, nothing. I contacted "support" who told me to insert the original card. I told them it never changed. To make a long phone call story shorter... they were absolutely no help at all and made every excuse in the book about how it's not their fault. Good luck with this. I'm seeking legal advice.
