Google Play Services issue after the 10h update?

Updated on Friday, seeing worse battery life now — about 9 hours total time. Looks and feels like Google Play Services might well be the culprit. Anyone else seeing anything like that?

Yep, same here. This happened on my S6 as well but only when I had WiFi on, so out of curiosity I turned WiFi off and my Google Play Services issues went away. It's like my S6 nightmare all over again.

If I understand it correctly (correct me if I'm wrong) it's a framework that goes up in battery usage the more you use Google apps. So if you are watching YouTube videos while listening to Play Music and chatting with Hangouts it will go up considerably.

I am doing nothing at all. My phone has been sitting on my desk most of the last 2-1/2 hours and has consumed 35% battery in that time.

And, just to add, I get full bars on both celluar and WiFi here in my office.

All I know is that before I started using Textra and was using Hangouts, I noticed my Google Play Services was jumping up to 25%+ battery usage. I disabled Hangouts and all of the other Google apps that I didn't use (Slides, Sheets, News, Books, etc.) and it dropped to 8% on average. When I am driving I use Play Music over Bluetooth and it jumps up to 15ish% and after I kill it when I get to work it drops back down. This is after the 10h update.

Yes Phil, even in the update threads people started talking about it. Must be an issue.

As mentioned I think the culprit is high use of Google programs

Maybe -- It may be an issue with the Google services acting wonky when using a lot causing the drain. I have the international model and have all syncs going (push email and such) -- No big drain.

My G4 doesn't arrive until tomorrow, but I can tell you that Google Play Services ate the battery of my Nexus 5 yesterday as well.

Not sure this is a device specific issue.

I have the 10H update and haven't noticed Google Play Services eating up much of my battery. It's 4th down at 7%. Android System is using up 12% and is number 3. Screen is number 1 for me at 22% and tune-in radio comes in at number 2.

Phil, I posted up a thread a couple of days ago about something similar. Ever since the 10h update Tmo's My Account App turns on GPS and won't release it. Quick "fix" was to set my Location setting to Battery Saving mode since it'll use the wireless tower to get your location vs GPS.
