AC Question

I don't have the google search bar on my home page and use a long-press on the home key to bring it up. Lately, I've been noticing that when I do a google search by long-pressing the home key, it times out after 10 seconds (exactly - I timed it), and leaves me with a blank google task bar. The next search works fine. This has been happening for a couple of weeks now. It doesn't time of again in that 'session' i.e., it only happens on the first search after long press.

Has anybody else experienced this and how did you resolve it (if you have).

I've got a Nexus 6P with Android 7.0

Welcome to Android Central! Are you on the regular Google app or the beta? Have you already tried going to Settings>Apps, selecting Google app, and Clearing Cache?

I haven't run into that problem but
a. I almost never use that feature
b. I'm on the 7.1.1 Developer Preview
Sorry.

You didn't mention yet if you're on the normal Google app or the beta. If you're on the beta, you could try exiting out of beta.

Are you using the Google Now Launcher, or an alternate launcher? Sorry for all of the questions -- I'm not sure I'll be able to come up with a good answer, but the more details we get, the more likely someone else might be able to help as well.

I'm using Nova launcher. I've tested out the same issue on Google Now launcher - of course, with Google Now launcher, the google bar is there by default and can't be removed, so I've tried two things:
1. just started typing in the google bar and it doesn't time out.
2. Long-pressed to bring up new google bar and it times out, just as in Nova launcher.

No problems with the questions - you're being very helpful and I'm happy to answer any questions.

Cheers.

Ok, I have Nova Launcher (Prime) as well. The issue isn't happening for me, but then again, I'm still on 7.0, so it could be a compatibility issue with 7.1.1 that TeslaCoil hasn't ironed out yet (or isn't aware of).

In the Nova Launcher settings, I have the Home Button action (under Gestures & Input) set to Google Now, which means a simple tap (and not a long-press) brings up Google Now. I prefer this to the Google Now On Tap screen that comes up with the long-press. Have you tried this alternative?

Yes, that does work better. I'm also still on Android 7.0 (I said that it was up to date but just meant that I've applied all system updates).
I'm guessing that the problem is with Nova launcher. I'll use this for now.

Cheers

Whoops, it was GSDer who mentioned being on 7.1.1. Glad that my suggestion helped!

Happens to me all the time. I'll get halfway through typing what I'm searching for and boom, it resets. Very annoying.

I'm on 7.0 as well, using Nova Prime.

I like to use it for screenshots, as it just lets me send it right away without actually saving it to any album (that way I don't have to go back and delete pointless screenshots later on), so I don't want to get rid of that feature.

I have put a search bar on the home screen, but it's difficult for me to remember that it's there, haha.
