Google Shamu: Motorola Nexus 6 (Nexus X)

Re: Motorola Nexus 6/Nexus X/Shamu

What's the difference between this and moto x software, or will it just be a scaled up version of the moto x ??

To expand on this a bit..Will it have the ir sensors for the hands free stuff?

For comparison sake...probably will be a smidge larger than the iPhone 6 Plus?

Re: Motorola Nexus 6/Nexus X/Shamu

Will it have wireless charging? I don't see how wireless charging is not a standard feature on all phones in 2014 and beyond??? The specs look awesome and I am ready for this to drop....

Its probably not a standard feature:
A) Because there isn't a true standard yet(thank you AT&T and your Powermat deal)
B) Many people just don't care about wireless charging at this point.

C'mon man. I checked out your post. You conveniently left this little tidbit out:

Yea, I added in a scenario if it turned out not to be the Nexus 6 lol.

Its will have qi for sure but if I'm going that big it's note 4 time

Re: Motorola Nexus 6/Nexus X/Shamu

I've followed the rumors and have hoped that the nearly 6 inch display was wrong. Should this prove correct I can only hope for a smaller variant. Shamu is simply to big for me to use as a phone.

Re: Motorola Nexus 6/Nexus X/Shamu

Again it is all personal preference. I currently have the N5 and really like it. But I wish it was a bit bigger. As I get older, my eyesight gets worse. A bigger screen helps with that. Also I rarely do any one hand work on my phone. I text in landscape with my two thumbs. So the size will not bother me and I think it will actually help me use the phone more. I use the speakerphone most of the time when talking or bluetooth in my vehicle. I will be a first day buyer of this device.

What is Google is playing a trick on us and showing an image of the Mini LG3.

Re: Motorola Nexus 6/Nexus X/Shamu

It will be half again as big as the 6+. The nexus 5 is 4.9", the 6+ is 5.5", the Shamu is 5.9". That's very large!

Right but you have to account for bezel around the display. I'm sure whatever this phone is will definitely be bigger than a 6+ but probably not by much.

Either way it'll be massive. I may just buy another Nexus 5 to replace my current one...which has taken a beating. N5 is still a great value for what its worth.

Totally agree about the Nexus 5. I'd be considering getting another one too, if it weren't for just having gotten a OPO, which I love but it's too big to carry with me without worrying I'll drop it. I'm not sure how they can improve really on the Nexus 5. How could the new one be any faster. I guess more power but I'm not sure what that's really needed for.

I would be shocked if wireless charging wasn't standard. The Nexus 4, 5 and (2013) 7 all had it. And there is a true standard, its Qi. I do agree with last point, it doesn't seem like a huge amount of people care about wireless charging. I bet if Apple adopted it that would help.

EDIT: Robbie317 informed me of other wireless charging technology standards I wasn't aware of, my bad.

Qi isn't the standard...... It's probably most widely used but there are still competing technologies in the wireless charging world..

"What both parties get, though, is a leg up on Qi. Originally, the Wireless Power Consortium's Qi standard was the front-runner in wireless charging — attracting device manufacturers like HTC, LG, and Samsung to build phones and tablets with the tech — but over the past couple years the PMA and A4WP have attracted a host of supporters, including Intel, AT&T, Starbucks, McDonalds (via PowerKiss), and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Qualcomm and Samsung have been playing the field, presumably hedging their bets, but both are founding members of the A4WP. WiTricity, the MIT spinoff that invented resonant wireless charging, is now an A4WP member as well."

You now have Rezence™ Wireless Power, Wireless Charging Standard | A4WP The A4WP technology and Wireless Power Consortium – creating a standard for wireless charging which is your Qi (Which is what Google backs and pushes)

Thanks! That's good info. I apparently have not been paying attention.

Yeah I don't know the true difference between the two.... Qi is inductive charging and A4WP is magnetic resonance charging.... from actually reading a little it sounds like A4WP is more powerful and charges faster.... I found out there was a difference when I bought my Nexus 7 (2013) and started to look around for a charging mat... Was at Walmart and they had a Duracell Powermat charging pad on sale or on Clearance.. I bought it only to find out it didn't work with my device.... Wrong Technology..... So I had to take it back and order a Qi charger online... At the time you couldn't really find many Qi based chargers in stores but the Powermat/Magnetic resonance technology seemed more abundant in stores......

Fun stuff huh????
