What a pain in the patoot to set this up!

I had first set up JUST G voicemail on a different G account and so it wouldn't let me associate the same cell number with my current account.

So, I then logged into and completely deleted that entire account cuz I don't want it anyway.

When I then tried to add my cell # to the G account I do want to use without getting a GV number, the little window hung up on "connecting phone." After awhile I just closed the dang browser. Went back in to the account I *do* want to use a short time later to try again and it now continuously pops up the window to get a G # which I don't want so I pick the voicemail only option and the little popup window tells me AGAIN that the number is associated with another account but it's not.

I can't even access the area I got into in order to delete the old account on the new account because the new account is not recognizing that this number is set up on it -- I would imagine cuz it never finished the setup. All I keep getting are these dang popup windows to pick a number or get just associate my phone and get straight up voicemail only.

So, before I keep trying this ... is the only thing I get is transcribed voicemails with GVoicemail only? If that's the case, screw this!

Sorry to hear that, it is really easy to set up. I would help but I am at work.

Deb do you know before you deleted your first account if you had the option to completely remove your number from the settings menu?

Hi Deb,

That was happening to me so i took the cowards way out and am now paying verizon for visual voicemail, I hated that I had to do that but google voice was giving me a headache

I checked every single option available to either delete or disable so I think I'm covered there.

I'm paying for VMM myself and because my monthly cell phone bills are over $200 a month I figure even a few bucks less will make me feel a little bit better. I also intend to cancel call rings - the tunes people get when they dial my phone. I like the VMM but I've been thinking more and more that it's not a necessity, just plain old voice mail should be ok is where I'm at. Some people here rave about GVmail but from what I've seen it only gives transcribed text. Sure that would be nice but again not a necessity. I don't get that many voicemails and most of them are from my hubby. I was thinking maybe GVmail also does the same things that VMM does so that's why I'm checking before I go any further -- like contacting Google for example and asking them to fix their blasted site for this.

It was easy for the first account because I hadn't programmed in my own number at all into any account other than that one.

I actually think it's associated with my new account instead of the old one but because the setup hung up it didn't finish. I also think the problem is that G needs to do a little updating and tell people in exact terms what the problem is -- I think what shows up is just a default for when a phone is associated somewhere -- but not necessarily another account.

Can you sign back into the orginal gvoice account by chance?

Lovy if your still viewing this I think I told a in my orginally a step wrong orginally when I set mine up.

I think I might do a how to on this matter later on, here my question to you Deb/lovy if I may. If you are trying to use gvoice just for voicemail, is really a problem going for the full blown service. See my experience is utilizing all google voice uses since I have 5 accounts. If I can help please let me know.

Deb one more thing you did you use call forwarding option on your phone when you setup your first account, something like *715551212 by chance?

If you're referring to my intended use -- just voicemail IF I find out it's worth the trouble -- but transcribed voicemails is not enough. I can just drop back down to basic voicemail and be done with this mess.

I did notice that when I associated my phone with that first account it *still* assigned a number that wasn't mine to it and I know for sure I selected that I wanted voicemail only -- not a GV number.

Did you you use call forwarding to set it up to begin with, sorry should have been more clearier on that matter. If you did use *73 deactivate old number to release your line from the old google voice account I believe.

Yes, I did and the G website did somewhere say it had been released or disabled.

Hi acm,

I basically just wanted it for the Visual Voicemail but after it kept assigning a phone number in order for me to check it I gave up and opted for Verizon's due to the fact that I am on a family plan I didn't want the surprise of going over my limit. Coming from iphone4 visual voicemail is what I am accustomed to it's nice and easy, but didn't know with Verizon I would be paying a fee. Oh one more thing google Voicemail was basically taking over my VM account even after I deleted it, it was still there I had to do a factory reset to get things back to normal.

To Deb and lovy both I have been a little busy here currently having the runaround with Verizon on some wireless issues. If you can give me sometime later I will take a look at your situation Deb and try to help out.

To lovy sorry you had a bad experience with GoogleVoice and it taking control of your phone. I have used it for little over 1 1/2, but I also use the full version of it.

Deb I have another question for you, Go into your menu-setiings-call-voicemail service and tell me what it says like my carrier or Google Voice. Needs to be set to my carrier, this a mistake I had originally made when I typed up my statement about setting up GoogleVoice with lovy last time. Mistake was you never change this to GoogleVoice unless you want to call by phone and listen to your messages privately and using your anytime minutes. It was some setting new to this phone and was I aware of it on my Evo.
