Tried out Google Voice for a day, decided I didn't like it. The SMS feature is horrible, taking over the existing phone's sms box.

The screen for texting within google voice is too damn small. I just plain don't like it.

Uninstalled google voice thinking that was it.

Can't receive texts anymore. Don't know if I can receive voicemail.

How can I remove this thing completely. I don't want it, at all. POS.

Wow, this is so stupid. Google failed hardcore with this crap. I feel like im in 2005 trying to remove Norton Anti Virus.

Uninstalling Google Voice (the app) from your phone won't change the configuration you did in order to provision your phone number to work with Google Voice (the service). You'll need to undo that as well, then your text messages and voicemail will go back to being routed through Sprint's system. That's my guess, at least.

In order to go back to visual voicemail (sprint) you need to re activate it by:

Steps you can try if you are not receiving your Visual Voicemail messages: 1. On your phone keypad, enter *38 and then press dial To cancel any call forwarding 2. Power off your phone, remove and reinsert the batte then power it back on 3. Update the data profile on your phone; go to Menu > Settings > System Updates > Update profile 4. Go into the visual voicemail application and compose visual voicemail message by selecting Menu and then Compose. Make sure your message is longer than 15 seconds and send to activate@vvm.sprint.com.

......

I prefer to only receive voicemail from Google voice and don't link my numbers between sprint and Google (which prevents Google voice from handling your texts). To fix it, login to Google.com/voice from a computer and go to your settings in the top right. When you see your phone number listed, uncheck it. Then your phone will do text again. Also, if you want Google voice for voicemail (which works really good) there's an option in your settings to not sync your pone numbers. There's also an option on one of the first screens when installing Google voice that allows you to skip the sync to your provider's phone number. (This is what was missed when you installed it the first time)

EDIT:
Picture help.

Once you click "disable" it will return sms, mms to your stock application. Then reinstall the app and skip the "sync" to my sprint number part as I was trying to explain above. :)

I'm pretty new to google Voice and haven't had a lot of experience with it... If I opt to not sync them, I can still use my cell number as the GV number correct? And I'll still get a notification when I have a message, just not a text/email/notificaton bar type notification? It would be strictly a vm client?

I believe you still get the notification just don't have to deal with it taking over your texts and stuff.... hope that helps. I prefer to have two separate numbers with the GV used as my voicemail. :)

i've had this question about Google Voice. i use it for my voicemail since on CM7, the visual voicemail apk got deleted, but is there a way to disable getting the text message notification?

In the Google Voice web interface, you can go to settings and disable text message notifications.

I unchecked the box on google.com/voice
did the voicemail thing.

Still cant receive texts on my regular sms app on my phone.

Sprint recently got into bed with Google Voice. Now, when you out Google Voice on a Sprint phone, it takes over your communications. Your Sprint number becomes your Google Voice number (previously, you had the option of having a separate number through Goggle Voice if you wanted it, or you could just use the Google voicemail service and not have to replace your number). I am unaware of any way to separate the services so you can still send/receive SMS through the sprint native app (which is personally how I prefer it) but I'm still looking. I signed up for Google Voice so I could get my voicemail messages transcribed and sent to me, and so I could listen to my voicemails through the Chrome extension - it sucks that we only have the all-or-nothing option now.

Meantime, if you install Google Voice, then discover this problem, uninstalling the app does not fix the problem! Google will still be receiving the SMS messages and will not have a way to send them to your phone! You have to actually "Sign Out" of Google voice in the app's preferences, or go to the Google Voice settings on your computer and sign out there.

this is the exact same thing that happen to me ive been trying everything to get it working

but how do i sign out?

In the app settings (hit the menu button to access) there is a sign out option. Also, if you are on your computer, go to Google Voice settings (upper-right corner) and go to the "Phones" tab. Either hit "Disable" next to the words "enabled by Sprint" or hit "Disable Google Voice on your Sprint mobile phone."

Sprint Visual Voicemail is garbage. They want to charge ya 1.99 for their trash. I'm glad I accidentally uninstalled it, and got google voice for my voicemail service.
