Google voicemail not showing up intermittently

I use googlevoice mail for my ATT number and the google dialer at times does NOT show my list of voicemails- it just shows no voicemails at all, when they do in fact exist. I have tried to reload the voicemail credentials choice, no help there.

Does anyone know if it conflicts with hangouts voicemail integration?

I don't have hangouts and I have had a problem with getting voicemails. I'm not the only one as there is another thread about this. It can take anywhere from 2 to 24 hours to get it which is of course unacceptable. Not sure if anyone has found a solution.

Have you guys considered using the Google Voice app? I use it and it signals voicemails right away. Plus - I have my voicemail voice-to-text transcriptions sent to my Gmail account.

I do have the google voice app installed, that seems to the the only way to get the integration within the dialer.
