Gorilla Glass on Epic different than iPhone 4?

Just to provide a different opinion...I got a phantom skinz and while the fit was ok, I hated the tacky surface and mild orangepeel effect, so much so that I had to remove it this week. I'd still like a protector but a hard plastic smooth one would be favorable to me. In the meantime the gorilla glass seems to have held up to my wifes abusive purse if that says anything.

Appreciate your response. Good to know it's not just me, although I wish it was nobody. I just installed Phantom Skinz since it's what I previously had on my Palm Pre. It fits perfectly and looks great! I don't notice any differences in touch screen use or capacitive buttons. First time it went on and no issues (although I am experienced since I've used Phantom Skinz before).

I replaced my Pre with the Epic as well...while the Pre's screen would scratch if you looked at it the wrong way, I have found that the Epic really doesnt need a screen protector. I keep it in my pocket constantly, sometimes (accidentally) with keys or a lighter in the same pocket, and nary a scratch on it! I am VERY pleased with the quality of the screen! That being said...dont expect ANY material to be scratch PROOF...nothing is perfect! :)

On the iPhone4 my boss got a scratch on it and Corning sent him a $800 Apple or AT&T gift card. He called them and asked why and they said to reimburse for how much it would cost for a brand new unlocked iPhone which was odd.

He had to send back his scratched iPhone for review.

Step 1: Purchase new smart phone from Sprint Store.
Step 2: Transport smart phone to nearest Best Buy.
Step 3: Purchase InvisibleSHIELD for specific smart phone.
Step 4: Apply InvisiblleSHIELD (or have Best Buy do it-that's what I do.)
Step 5: Enjoy new smart phone.

That's odd...because iPhone's don't use Gorilla Glass:

Like everything Apple makes, it's done in China . . . (not to say that Corning doesn't have factories in China...they probably do). :)

(sorry to revive an old thread)

I went into my local Sprint Store today in order to purchase a spare battery and the salesperson was really pushing me to purchase a screen protector as well. I let out a hearty chuckle, then politely informed him that I wouldn't be needing a screen protector because my Epic 4G has gorilla glass. He then told me that the Epic 4G screen is still prone to scratching and that I should really consider purchasing a screen protector. I informed him about the various youtube videos demonstrating the seeming indestructibility of the gorilla glass, then went on my way.
Still, it got me to thinking: was this salesperson being honest about scratches on the Epic 4G screen? Also, a number of you have been discussing various screen protectors for your phones. Do you know something I don't know? I went with Phantom Skinz for my Palm Pre, but haven't felt the need to look into a skin for the Epic.

i have personally tested my phone with keys, forks, and butterknifes....held up great...when evo users talk crap, i always show them whats up

I'm getting my phone back tomorrow. I'm thinking about letting it go naked and not put on my phantomskinz. Hmm

I can't imagine willfully taking a fork to my screen....

I did so on my Fascinate, not one scratch, and a key as well. The U.S. Galaxy S Variants do have Gorilla Glass. That said don't push down super hard to squash the screen, that is not what you are supposed to be testing, you are testing to see if the screen scratches which it doesn't. With a fork, or key or w/e it will just glide through on the screen.

Ive had a screen protector on since day one. A buddy of mine has had one since launch with no protector on and his is all scratched up. It's still glass even if gorillas made it..... :)

I don't know what you guys are doing to get scratches on your phone. I have had mine since Early January and not one scratch. My Fascinate does not have a Screen Protector. I keep it in my pocket with my keys even. So perhaps you guys are doing something different from me.

I dropped my phone about 5 feet once onto solid concrete sidewalk. Not 1 scratch on the screen.

I've had my phone since day 1 and I still have not one scratch on my screen. Unlike my palm pre which had a scatch on the 2nd or 3rd day.

Sent from my Epic 4G using Taptalk
