Just wondering do those of you who have phones that have Gorilla Glass displays also use screen protectors? Please also answer why or why not. Thank you!

I'm using Gorilla glass 2, with only a screen protector... I haven't dropped my phone before... But here's my opinion anyway. I think if you are clumsy and often drop your phone, no tempered glass can save it if it lands on the "perfect spot" which causes the screen to crack. For example, my friend who had tempered glass on his Galaxy s4 dropped his phone and the tempered glass was not damaged. However, the screen underneath the tempered glass cracked and had to be replaced. If you treat your phone well, no tempered glass is really required for protection and Gorilla glass is good enough for protection. However, screen protectors are still advised to prevent scratches so it can extend the screen life.

On the contrary. I have a Moto G 1st gen. And it does has scratches, even if they are light and you can only see them at an angle. And I believe the LG G3 has Gorilla Glass, but it suffered the same fate of receiving scratches. So I have no clue. Just my 2 cents.

Screen protectors I do not like at all.

That's why I carry my phone in a boring, good old fashioned, (un)stylish and totally functional phone sock. Keys, coins etc don't have a chance to scratch my screen.

Gorilla Glass is about a 6.7 hardness. Carbide (produced by burning, and it's in the air around us in sub-microscopic particles) has a hardness of 9. If you wipe the screen dry, and there are carbide particles on it, it'll scratch. (even lay it face down on a table and move it and you can scratch it - I have a phone with 2 tiny but ugly scratches from that).

Gorilla Glass makes the screen harder to break, but in the real world (where there's carbide in the air), wet the microfiber cloth you use to get your fingerprints off the screen. (Not enough for any moisture to get inside the phone, just enough to "roll" the particles off - damp.) Or use a screen protector or a case with one. (I use an Otterbox Defender. Break the protector and it's a few bucks for a new one.)

I've got a Bionic that has Gorilla Glass and it scratched a fair bit over time from dust and stuff rubbing it in my pocket. I'm now on an M8 with Gorilla Glass, but use a tempered glass screen protector on top of that. It feels just like a bare screen, but with the convenience of being replaceable if it gets scratched up. I don't think I'll ever go without a protector again and consider it sacrificial protection. It's a cheap cost to let it take the damage and save the main screen.

Curious about how much pressure Gorilla Glass 3 can tolerate? Any ideas?
