Gorillaglass this AINT!

Yes! I just found this out this morning...$163 to be exact (plus they party for shipping). The only downside is I won't have a phone for a week. I feel like much less of a tool now for not buying the insurance which would have cost me the same anyways ($100 deductible plus two months of coverage...) The best part is I keep my same phone (which has no problems) instead of getting another refurb unit that I would have to re-setup...

Even if your math was right (which it's not), your theory is flawed. NOBODY would actually save that "wad of cash." It would be gone. If your in a financial position that $600 for a replacement is no big deal to you, then I would agree that insurance is a waste. But if it would really piss you off or make you cringe, then you should have it.
Math it's right..... over 25 years with cell phone (think back to the bag phone, brick phone was an upgrade :D), with multiple phones on my account (mostly 3, currently 5), roughly $5k estimate.

In all that time never had phone that needed to be replaced under warranty....

And it is cash in my pocket... I have more than $5k in my savings account, a piece of that is essentially my monthly insurance savings.

If my phone breaks I'll snag one of Craigslist or eBay, won't pay retail. Have a spare phone to carry me over (currently Droidx and Palm pre). I'm covered - probably just jinxed myself. :o

If you're going to carry your phone in your pocket, then you're going to get some scratches on it. Pockets are for lint...get a holster.

Some of us hold those that use holsters in low regard and prefer not to become the type of person that does.

For some holsters are necessary though. When I'm not working my phone has an incipio feather on it and its in my pocket. When i am it has a seido active(I think) on it and its in its holster on my belt. I learned a long time ago that a phone in my pocket while I'm working will end up with a cracked screen.

Between keys, change, a knife and a spare magazine, there's just no room for 5 inch slab of plastic. Plus, it's very difficult to get out of a pocket while driving. I know some people like to just leave it in their lap (those are the ones that always start threads about how they broke their screen when getting out of the car), and some like to lay it in the car somewhere, but then I'd forget it half the time when I got out.

Funny you say that: the only time I've ever cracked a screen was the one time I tried a holster.

LMAO! I've never heard the "holsters are for (add derogatory title here)" argument put more eloquently than that!

Oh, so using a holster immediately makes one a type of person? I think that says more about the person holding that opinion than the person with a holster.

Try putting a big screened phone in your pockets and then crouching down all day. Pants will get tighter around your thighs as you bend and torque the phones enough to break the screen. See it in podts here all the time. People wondering how their screen broke when it was facing in in their pocket. Then the dumb a$$e$ blame the phone.

Lol, yep. Kinda sounds like a typical snobby iSheep statement.

Well, when i hit the other four on that list people can say something. Although I don't know what "dad jeans" are, and NB are comfortable as hell.

Could be worse, if you wear tight jeans you don't even need any other pieces to complete the uniform.

Re: Gorillaglass this AINT! but Lotus Glass?

Remember Samsung or Goggle never said what kind of glass was used on the GN

Today comes the announcement that Samsung and Corning will jointly manufacturer Lotus Glass.

I wonder if Lotus Glass is used on the Galaxy Nexus?

When I read threads like this one what really hits me is how effective Apples marketing is. If they hadn't chosen to gorilla glass in their phones most would not even heard about it.

Do they still use gorilla glass in their phones?

Yes, but it isn't cited by name. We didn't even know for sure until Jobs conversation with Obama on, erm, jobs came out.

They said its fortified glass. I just assumed that means the glass is full of vitamins and minerals kind of like my Frosted Flakes. :D

You guys are pushing the insults and not thinking hard enough.
I have a pouch holster that fits in my pocket, protects the phone and keeps the dust off the phone.

I slide the phone in the holster in my pocket and it stays sturdily there.

the GN's glass is not fragile, but it is surrounded only by a thin plastic border, rather than a large bezel like moto phones. that's why you need to put a case on it, the design lends itself to glass cracking when dropped.

there's samsung-corning co in korea since 1980s, they provide LCD glasls for samsung but corning didnt allow them for Amoled. (until last year october)
so.. corning provided samsung GG directly (about 10%) and rest, they got asahi glass's soda lime.
so im pretty sure the glass in GNex is asahi glass's soda lime.
as far as I know, i can tell u this for sure.. asahi glass's soda lime's better than cheaper chinese soda lime that Iphone's using.
