Got an email from AT&T - Note on backorder?

Just got off the phone with Premier...the kid told me that he shows my order went thru at 1:24am--I reckon it may have taken me a few minutes to get the order thru since I was doing it on my phone, and he said that they go by eastern time, which makes my 12:24am the same.

He said that they are on "backorder" status because there is no inventory to fill the orders yet, which makes sense. The fact that I am paying full retail has no effect on the status of the order. According to him, they were expecting around 1200 units, and there are now 442 units backordered--I think he was talking about the warehouse closest to me, which would be in Ft Worth, because surely they would have been allocated more than 1200 for the whole country, right?

He also said that our units should ship out on the 17th, and that if whatever delivery service we are using (for me, it is FedEx) has weekend deliveries, we will have our phones on Saturday the 18th, otherwise it would be Monday, the 20th.

So, I feel a little better knowing that the backorder issue is actually a non-issue, sucks that I will have to wait till after work on Monday to play with my new toy, but if that is the worst thing that ever happens, I reckon I'll live...

One last thing, though--ever notice how the people that speak with the most confidence are usually the ones that are always wrong/mistaken? Yeah, well this kid I spoke to pretty much talked like he was a tenured professor...so, do we really know anything that we didn't already? :confused:

Oh I did wanna mention that he is just not very knowledgeable or was just being a buzzkill. AT&T has already said publicly that they will ship all orders placed before 3pm 2/15 on 2/16. So he has no clue what he is talking about. My order confirmation says the same thing.
The preorder is meant to reward us, and give us our phones before the public release, not afterward. I'm guessing that we will start receiving them on 2/17 and by 2/18

I went to official AT&T store the day after preorder realease. Received this email soon after. No others as of yet.

Funny, I was the first one to bring it up to them for purchase. Took a while for them to find sku # for ceramic white and figure out how to purchase in the system but I came out with a receipt. :) They sent out an email letting other stores in area how to do it :p

I think its possible they might get overwhelmed by the amount of orders. I think the Online orders vs other store orders have different number allocations. Perhaps online they only have X amount and after that they are backordered, but will hopefully fill them soon. Maybe AT&T underestimated the overall demand for the unit.

Hopefully everyone will get there units.
