Got new phone after bootloop, now SD card can't be formatted

My old phone went into a bootloop, which meant I needed a replacement. When I tried to format my SD card (after getting everything off), I noticed that it would say that formatting was complete, but that nothing was removed (everything was still there). I put my SD card into my MacBook Pro to see if it was a phone problem, but the problem continued here as well. I don't see a lock on my MicroSD card, and I made sure that the lock on the adapter was off. Does anyone know what happened? Does this mean I need to buy a new MicroSD card?

Can you actually read the files or your SD card is encrypted? I think if your card is encrypted you will need to follow certain steps to reformat it.

I can read the files. That's how I was able to get them off the card. It seems like it's in read-only mode without explicitly saying it's in read-only mode.

Try formatting using a PC.

Most probably the SD card needs to be replaced. I thought only samsung phones "eat" sd cards.
