Got the Otterbox Defender : )

No, unfortunately not. I bought the extended battery as well and was sad to find that it's not compatible. I'll end up selling the extended batt and buying the charger kit/plus extra battery.

I forgot to mention above, that Otterbox is usually synonymous with bulk. I was surprised at how much bulk the defender does NOT add the the Gnex. Couldn't be happier...

It takes some work, but you can get it over the extended battery.

I found that clipping in the top of the phone first works best. Once the top of the phone has its case clipped in, it helps hold the lower half together. It clips in without any effort or pressure at all. I only had to apply alot of pressure when clipping in the bottom first.

Any thoughts on the difference in bulk between the Otterbox Defender and Commuter cases for the GN? I was also looking a the Defender, but the bulk scares me off a bit.... Seems like the Commuter case would be more streamlined.

I now have the defender. I can testify that the case does indeed fit over the extended battery + extended battery cover with a little bit more strain. The extended battery cover -is- slightly different than the stock cover as follows: the stock cover has a slight "lip" to the bottom (think newer moto designs but much less pronounced); the extended cover does away with the lip and is very slightly convex all the way around the edges. It is so slight that you probably wouldn't notice it upon looking at it unless you were intentionally looking for it. You can feel the difference but it's hard to see.

The defender case has a thin foamy-rubbery pad on the inside of the case which is contoured to fit the lip of the stock cover, but it doesn't seem to offer enough resistance to make a noticeable difference when you use the extended battery + cover. It's a tad tighter but not so much that it seems to be adding any strain to the phone. (I realize others have said that it is an uncomfortable amount of strain but all I can say is that this has not been my experience)

Overall the case seems less bulkier than I expected, and not so narrowly tailored to the edges of the screen that it makes any of the screen hard to utilize. I liken it more to the otterbox commuter that I had for my BB Storm 2 than previous defender designs. Very pleased overall.

So which is it? I've read what sounded to be a definitive "no" on the Otterbox being compatible with the Galaxy Nexus Extended Battery. I've also read what sounded to be a definitive "yes". I desperately need to get a case and holster.

I agree with OP and PaulDroid.

I love my Defender and feel secure in the fact that if I drop it no harm will come to my investment. I think I will go naked if I go out on weekends, but as far as everyday use and my job is concerned you can bet the Otterbox Defender will bring some much needed peace of mind. :)

I have the extended battery with the that comes with it and my phone fits in it. I am using right now in fact.

My phone with the extended battery is in the otter box defender.

I just bought this case about 2 hours ago and love it. I guess I'm one of the weird people who actually like the extra heft in my hand, easier for me to hold (even with my small hands). Another thing I like is the fact that my phone now feels indestructible, I don't usually drop my phone (most of them haven't even been dropped once) but it my happen eventually but with this case I'm not too worried about it. It does have a screen protector built in which does distort the screen very slightly, but not enough to make me upset, its no worse than most other screen protectors and doesn't seem to take any sensitivity away from the touch screen either.

All in all I'm happy with this case, it still fits in my car mount (not the galaxy nexus mount but this one: Amazon.com: Arkon SM410 Universal Windshield with Dashboard and Vent Mount for Smartphones and PDAs - Mount - Bulk Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories another good accessory btw if you are in the market for a car mount) and makes it feel like my phone could survive being thrown off a 20 story building (probably not, but feels like it) so while they are a bit expensive, from anywhere between 30 - 50 dollars, its still a good investment if you didn't pick up any insurance.

yes I am using my otter ox defender over the extended battery and cover and it fits fine. Not straining my phone at all..but a little tighter than the stock battery setup. Not too thick either. I really like the case hut the screen protector is the only flaw..not really distorts the screen in brought whitish backgrounds. Such as the browser and even tapatalk. It reflects small specs of colors and is starting to annoy me because I know the potential of how the screen looks naked. So now I'm on the fence of taking the screen protector off the defender or getting a commuter case. Maybe both defender for work and commuter for everything else. Any opinions would he appreciated. I haven't seen the commuter yet

I removed the built in screen protector on the defender.
it's glued on so just remove the residual gunk with goo-gone.

Added a separate screen protector (the clear verizon ones are pretty good actually...DON'T GET THE ANTIGLARE. Also have a Boxwave one coming in) and it looks MUCH better than the built in one.

OK. Thanks for the tip. Would you recommend the defender for work commuter for everything or what you did?

Probably best to just keep the Defender case if you are happy with it (since you already purchased). I have the Commuter case and it's a bit lighter than the Defender, with no built-in screen protectors (they come separate in the package). They also aren't quite as dust/dirt-proff as the Defender case.

Anyone else with the otterbox notice an oily/greasy look on the screen protector, especially when looking at something bright/light on the screen? Makes the little pixels look more R/G/B, it's just kind of annoying to look at. You can make it go away by pivoting the screen back and forth quickly, and it kind of blurs it away.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about? This is my first screen protector, so maybe it's normal, but it is certainly annoying as well.

I got the same impression. I had snapped all of the corners shut and it was such a tight fit, it seems like there was a lot of pressure on the phone. I didn't feel comfortable with it so I got a different case.

Has anyone tried this case using the extended battery but without the battery cover? Might be a solution...

Got the xoskin in place and peeled off the Defenders screen protector - I thought it was a bit stiff and slightly "oily" looking. After a few days with the Defender off to allow the xoskin protector to cure it is really noticeable to me now how fat this case is, don't really like it. But I will keep the case for hiking, biking and skiing when I just toss the Nexus in the backpack. I have the extended 2100 battery and cover and it fits tight but securely.

Just got the Defender w/holster and I love it. It's the smallest, least bulky OtterBox case I've ever had. I feel well protected without a giant increase in size. Feels great in the hand.

To help settle the extended battery issue, here's what I'm gathering. The extended comes with another back. It is possible to fit the stock back over the extended batt, which I'm guessing is the difference maker (extended back vs. stock back)

Sure do..!! I'm not a case guy to begin with but I almost dropped it a few times already because of the slickness WITHOUT a case.... so I did a little looking around and pound for pound I liked the Otterbox Defender for a few reasons...

Pro's:
- You can drop the thing out a helicopter and it would be fine (Please dont try this at home)
- I like how it fits on the phone...
- I like the rubber ridges on the back although still slick (maybe cause its new)
- I like the kickstand

Cons for Me:
- As mentioned above, the screen protector distorts the colors and allows for a build up of oil from your finguers to show very noticeably on the phone.... This drives me nuts...
- The rubber on the back and sides is still very slick even though its rubber... I dont know, maybe my hands sweat too much... but I'm going to try and wipe the rubber down with a rag and some rubbing alcohol

I have only had experience with one other screen protector for a BB Storm 2 (Otterbox Commuter). It did not result in the same prismatic effect (what others have referred to as the RGB effect) that I am seeing from the GN Otterbox Defender case. However, the GN protector seems thicker than the Storm protector, I assume because it is built in to the case.

The effect is a bit annoying and does detract from the appearance of the screen, but not so much to me personally to warrant tearing out the protector.

I haven't noticed any particular oil buildup effect.
