Grandfathered Unlimited vs The New Unlimited Verizon

Same boat here. The fact that new plan costs more despite the possible slowed connection after x gb has kept me away.

I don't know what you have now, but I saved money despite losing my Corporate Discount by Switching.

I have the Nationwide 500 plan. It would cost me $20 more a month to switch. I've called twice and had them figure it out.

I have the Grandfathered Unlimited plan and I'm thinking about switching to the new unlimited plan to save some money, has anybody made the switch?if so was it worth it?

It was worth it for me. I had 3 lines.... mine was unlimited. My mistake was losing the unlimited on my daughters line a few years ago. My daughter had double the GBs of a regular plan because I complained after I upgraded her with a subsidized phone an lost her unlimited. She kept going over 6GB.... then I maxxed out her plan at 8GB and she was still going over 2 or 3 GBs a month.
I didn't want to give up my grandfathered but it was costing me too much. I have definitely saved money. My plan is actually cheaper and I lost my Corporate Discount by switching. You should be able to go on line do a comparison. I haven't gone over 22 yet and I listen to a lot of music and use my phone a lot. I'm not even careful about putting it on Wi-Fi. Maybe if I watched a lot of streaming content.

Well if it doesn't save you money then its no point. Mine was clearly lower and that was without my daughter exceeding her plan

There are 2 temptations: use of wifi hotspot and getting rid of landline. If the wifi hotspot were unlimited I would do it. 10 gb isn't much if I stream movies to my computer or iPad.

I stick with the old grandfathered unlimited yet for a 20% discount via my employer, something I'd lose on the new unlimited plan since it only supports discounts for active duty military and veterans. Before any taxes and fees it's $72 on my old plan with the discount and $80 for the new plan (assuming I sign up for Auto Pay which I'm not a fan of).

As for hotspot my phone is rooted so it bypasses any subscription check, when it wasn't FoxFi did the trick. Either way I've never used more than 15-20GB tops via the hotspot (usually less than 5GB any given month) so I'm probably way under their radar.

The only way at this point I'd consider switching is if/when I lose that employer discount. :)

I lost my discount by switching and I'm still paying less.

Off Topic: I see you're a Vulcan 750 rider. I had one back in 2003, then I switched to a 1600 Meanstreak..... I ended up hitting a deer at 50 miles per and haven't ridden for about 11 years but I'm thinking of getting something within the next year.

Do you use hotspot that much to warrant that 10 GB being a problem?

I swapped from T-Mobile 2 lines for $100 a month unlimited .. to Verizon unlimited (new). I had a few friends and family join... So now I have 9 lines on VZW unlimited lol. With the MIL discount and such I pay about $31-33 a month (taxes and all) for my line. Hard to beat really.

My cycle resets on Saturday. As of today I am at 102 GB so.. I definitely can use a lot without issue :). I also get my usage out of minutes / texts.

I don't use it at all. If I do I would use it all the time at work (our wifi not secure enough for my taste) and nonstop steam Netflix & Xfinity

Yeah with unlimited I only use WiFi at home. I figure I pay for WiFi at home so going to use it but .. out and about I don't. I figure why pay for unlimited if I am going to latch onto wifi? Plus like you I don't trust many wifi networks. I do have a VPN if need be but still would prefer to just stay on LTE. I will use WiFi at friends houses though from time to time (purely for speed when need be).

We put an iPad mini 4 on our account for three lines. It now uses the most data.

Still cheaper than our old Nationwide 700 plan with just two lines.

I have just a single line on the old Nationwide 500 plan with unlimited data which breaks down to (calling plan + unlimited data - 20% discount) 39.99+49.99=89.98-17.99 = $72. On the new plan it'd go up to $85 as I wouldn't do auto pay. Even with auto pay putting it at $80 it wouldn't be worth it just to gain unlimited calling and texting as I don't do much of either especially texting (mainly just data).

Off topic: Vulcan 750 is my all time favorite motorcycle, had a brand new 2005 model but sold it a couple years later. Still kicking myself to this day for doing it especially since they don't make em anymore (production stopped in 2006). I've looked at getting a new bike but nothing measures up, really don't care for all these Harley styled bikes these days still prefer that 80's metric cruiser type with shaft drive.

I have a Loyalty 550 Talk only plan with the grandfathered unlimited, is it possible to keep the grandfathered unlimited and get unlimited talk & text? It seems the new plans are not on a contract from what I was told and basically one can sign up for the cheapest plan available just to save money and as long as the billing cycle is not over, one can always change to some other plan for that entire billing cycle should one go over the allowed data allowance.

I think you can get unlimited talk and text on the old plan but it costs a ton on the old plans.

I tried asking VZ Customer Service on the phone and they said they only had the new plans available. Any idea how to get the unlimited talk and text and what it is called?

Not talking about the New Verizon Plan, I basically want to keep the Grandfathered Unlimited Data and replace the voice part with unlimited talk and text.

I was able to do it on the website. Unlimited talk and text. It is under plan change. Note that i do get an employee discount, which may or may not apply to you

Interesting, how did you get to that section of the website?

For me, after logging in to verizonwireless.com and then
My Verizon -> My Plan & Services -> Manage Plan, this is all I see:
