Great 4G speed, but lousy hotspot speed

When I use the tablet on its own and check its speed in SpeedTest, I get 72 mbps up/13 down. When I use the tablet's hotspot for my computer and run speedtest, I get 20 up and maybe 1 down if I'm lucky. Why does the speed drop with the hotspot? I'm on VZW's unlimited plan, which is supposed to give me 4G hotspot as long as I stay under 15 GB/month.

Which Verizon plan do you have? Did you look through the fine print to see if there's something about hotspot throttling?

It would be throttled to 600 kbps after 15 GB usage. My monthly data just reset 3 days ago. I'm getting 20 mbps.

Have you asked Verizon about this? Maybe they're incorrectly throttling the hotspot.

I'll give it a few days and try it again. If the low speed persists, I'll call them.

Remember also - if you're using wifi as a connection to the hotspot, that cuts the speed in half (most Android hotspots can't do full duplex). If you're using USB as the connection, the USB port might be limited in speed.

I'm using the wireless hotspot. I never knew the speed got halved. I'm still going to call VZW if it isn't at least a bit faster next time I use it.
