Re: [GUIDE][7/5] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

ok just making sure i have this correct, but if i'm going from 2.1 to 2.2 i only need to wipes caches and not the system?

Re: [GUIDE][7/5] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

i know i was thinking the same thing stock on jb is crazy smooth and fast. can you backup your settings with the stock launcher?

No you can't unfortunately.

I'm using Apex (just prefer it over Nova, though Nova is a very good launcher as well of course). Speed and smoothness are absolutely still present. I actually use Apex because you can turn up the scrolling speed and make things even faster (Yes Nova does this as well) without sacrificing smoothness. Also like using it so I can backup my homescreen between flashing, and because of gestures. Call me nuts but once you get used to the gesture of being able to swipe downwards anywhere on your homescreen to bring down the notification pull-down its impossible to not have that option :)

But yeah you should be able to try Nova or Apex and be happy without feeling like you're losing anything from the stock launcher experience, IMO.

Ohh.. yeah there are options for it.. you'll need to explore in Settings > Keyboards/input and find the settings for the keyboard specifically. Sorry can't help further I use Swiftkey only, lol.

Doing a dirty flash you should wipe cache, dalvik, AND format /system. You don't lose data/apps doing this, that only happens when you wipe data/factory reset. It's just a very good idea to clean out your old system completely before flashing any new ROM/version. Then just flash the ROM and the gapps and reboot. All your previous settings, apps, data will still be there.

Welcome aboard! Just remember to read everything you can and take your time, especially if you're new to this stuff. After reading don't be shy to ask questions for anything you're still unclear about :)

FWIW, I don't think format system is necessary for kernels, just for dirty flashing the roms themselves.

Oh no... You absolutely should NOT format system for kernels, I meant only for dirty flashing ROMs, lol..... Flashing a kernel does not give you a new system, so formatting the one you're on will give you a nasty surprise when you reboot if you tried that haha.. :)

A cache, dalvik wipe for kernels is just fine.

I have to look, but I saw them mentioned in the Belly thread at RW.

Yeah, check the Gnexus Themes section on Rootzwiki. Just make sure they say they are compatible with the exact ROM and VERSION of what you are on.

Theres a jellybean boot loader floating around I flashed it with no I'll effects.
http://forum.xda-dev...67&d=1340866238 Jelly Bean Boat Loader CWM Flashable

I don't think this is a good idea for anyone to screw with at all. These should be designed to work specifically for the Toro and with it's hardware and radio files. Nobody here should mess around with bootloader files yet.

I wasn't able to load the link either. Saw on RW people have had so so success with flashing it.

I'm waiting and I think that's the safest route.
