[GUIDE][8/1] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Re: [GUIDE][7/1] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Yeah, it's weird. This is the most accurate my GPS has been in a while.

I wonder if a simple cache wipe of the Maps and Nav app itself would help out in the future.

Although, to be quite fair, I have had no GPS issues since Saturday.

Re: [GUIDE][7/1] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

No problem, that's why we're here.

You want to download (1) the 1.8 file, and (2) the GAPPS from 7/1.

Reboot into CWM, do a wipe of EVERYTHING--data, cache, dalvik, and go to mounts/storage and format /system. Hell, do it twice!

Then, flash the 1.8 rom zip FIRST and the GAPPS second. If you forget about the GAPPs, then power down your phone (immediately lol) and flash them.

I recommend trinity, so far it's been the best kernel for my device. However each device responds differently, so if you find a kernel, try it for a day before giving up!
If you want to use trinity, download it, place it on your SDcard (like you would a rom), and reboot into CWM and flash it. I recommend a cache/dalvik wipe b/c that's always safe.

Do I still need to make a nadroid back up first? Also I guess the new su file is included in the rom.
and which trinity kernel are most rocking, I see many choices.

i stopped making nandroids, considering new versions of these ports come out so frequently. i have a nandroid of vicious v2, and my trusty aokp b37 backup

su is included, but theres an immediate update available, and you should update the binaries once you download the update (run the supersu app)

JB14 is the latest version i believe. there are 3 (?) versions, each with diff max frequencies - 1344, 1536, and 1629 or something along those lines. the lower, the stabler.

my experience with 1536 was poor 3g/4g handoff. much better on 1344, but i didnt like the color corrected blue cast

one last question be fore I make the plunge to 1.9, will I loose all my data like when I unlocked and rooted, i.e pictures, music, my sms backup ,etc?

Re: [GUIDE][7/1] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

nope
this is just like flashing any rom
and if you are on 1.6-1.8, you can just dirty flash (just wipe cache/dalvik)

Nope moving from AOKP b38 to JB 1.9, i finally have some free time to give it a whirl. hope it goes smooth.

Ok I started and wiped cache, I went to advanced and tried to wipe Dalvik but all I get it droid and sphere spinning. does this mean it is wiped?

Okay... I'm getting the hang of the ROM / Kernel Upgrade thing... My first walk down the road of Flashing (phone stuff that is), was over the weekend... it took me about 10 hrs off and on, reading the posts and asking questions (Speaking of which, a big thanks to all of the people that posted and helped out).

I came home from work today with the intent that I was going to do it all over again and upgrade from JB 1.2 to 1.8. I was scared to death that it was going to take another 10 hours to get all the apps installed and configured the same way... It turns out about 5 mins later, I had everything backed up, reformatted, installed 1.8 and restored all my apps and I was up and running... better and faster then ever... So again, thanks to everyone for helping out...

One question I do have... has anyone installed the fastglowkeys mod...? I installed it, however I'm not seeing any difference ...? I thought maybe I overlooked it... so I reinstalled it again along with the "white clock" and Battery mod... but still nothing...

Thoughts...?

well, i truly truly feel like an idiot.... i spent all this time wracking my brains over this GPS issue. i downloaded stock 4.0.4 image and aokp b40 to see if going back to a stable source-based install would cure my woes. i installed vicious V3, which also didnt have functioning gps. and then.....

i went outside!!! perfect lock, under 10 seconds.

so, now its back to JB1.9, and restoring all of my apps.... oy vey i need a beer

I am making the jump right now to JB 1.9, gapps hard at work right now. Will let the stock kernel settle in and than maybe try another kernel like Trinity.

I'm glad you all are getting some solid flashing experience.

And nycinek, don't worry, I made the same mistake a couple days ago (except I didn't go and flash 8 things before discovered it :p).

Again dmmarck, without you and nycinek, zero and the others all this would not be possible.

but heres a question.
before I restored with Nova, I had the "stock" look, and I have the 5 icons if swipped to the left screen for wifi-bt-gps-rotate and brightness, but when I went and restored using Nova they are gone, anyway to get them back in some fashion as "short cuts/toggles"?

Yes. Go to Widgets in your drawer, then look for "Power Control." That's the widget you're talking about I believe.

Can you use the camera with other camera apps like instagram? I'd dry clearing cache in the camera app (Settings ==> Apps).

I uninstalled the new notification app, and camera restored, not sure but I will go back and use the widget.
