[GUIDE][8/1] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Re: [GUIDE][7/6] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Yeah I may wait. I'm going to let mine compile and I may make a zip version tomorrow as well. My feeling is the dev rushed it and forgot some things lol

That's what it seems. I'm sure Jakeday will have a fully AOSP rom working in about 24 hours.

He said on IRC before going to bed that he has compiled version 3.0. So I'm sure by tomorrow we will have the jelly belly aosp version.

So do you think any new JB rom will have the bootloader built in or will we have to flash that before the rom and gapps. I still get nervous every time I do a rom flash, and adding 1 more step r think could push me over the edge. I am hoping that Jake will in some fashion include all files into 1 rom except for gapps of course.
I may also have to wait until after this weekend, I am heading out with my boys to the lake george area and have to have a good working phone with GPS.

I will be lurking to see what happens, do want to rush this flash.
Enjoy your day rom flashers... :)

This question about needing the updated bootloader has been asked a few times in the past 24 hours with no reply. I was wondering the same thing. Does anyone know the answer to this? It sounds like people are avoiding this question. Anyone???

havent seen whether there is a new bootloader or not.

if there is, you should flash it before loading up an aosp jb rom. if there is not, you will probably be flashing the 'old' jb bootloader.

in any event, you just need to check the md5 of the bootloader before you flash - character string matches - flash the bootloader. doesnt match - dont flash.

after you flash bootloader i suggest a reboot, wait a min or two, then go back to recovery and wipe/flash everything else.

QQ guys... I've been lurking along here for a few days following the thread. I'm waaaaaaaay back here with JB 1.8 and Trinity and I have to say, i've been quite happy with it.

My question is.. is it advantagous to jump to 2.6 and if so, what are the advantages of doing so. Speed is not really an issue for me... I'm more concerned with the stability of the OS and the battery life.... or should I just wait for the AOSP in the next day or so and then upgrade...? Wanna get your thoughts...

Also, for those experienced hackers, are you still using the factory battery, or aftermarket extended ones to extend battery life....? just curious..

Thanks...

If you're happy with 1.8 and don't like flashing Roms all the time i would just wait a day or two for something pure aosp.

I'm using my 2150 extended battery while running these ports, but when I flash something from source I expect to go back to the reg battery bc I prefer the phone lighter and thinner.

Re: [GUIDE][7/6] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

so i have been reading around trying to catch up on this forum now that the source is out. my question is what is with this JB bootloader? and is it something i need to flash for JB roms and stuff?

i know there are plenty of battery threads but how much did the 2150 help i assume its the one from vzw ? the samy one?

Re: [GUIDE][7/6] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Thanks Zero... Its not that I dont like hacking or upgrading ROM's... I do, especially if there is an added benfit to it...(a nominal benifit to it). But I'm an IT guy and stability on my daily phone is critical to what I do... Thank you very much for the advice... I guess I will wait for the final release before my next upgrade...

I'm getting pretty good hours out of my stock Verizion battery... but wanted to see if there are any aftermarket ones that do a better job and still keep the same footprint...

you wont get any better than the vzw extended battery for the footprint. as far as extended batteries go, it doesnt really change the feel of the phone other than round out the back so that the little "chin" goes away. i rather like the feel of the phone with the extended battery a whole lot more than the stock. of course, theres the Seidio monster which adds about an inch to the phone's thickness :p

I've used nothing but the standard battery. It's served me just fine.

yeah the vzw-samsung one.
honestly it doesnt help all that much. maybe an extra 45 min screen on time? something like that. it's nice to have tho, since i got it when it was on sale pretty cheap.

there's a bigger one available but no way would i disrupt the sleekness of my phone like that :)

@rick - yeah i hear ya. if you flash 2.6 today, there will probably just be soemthing better tomorrow or the day after :)

the jb bootloader was pulled from the preview version of jb. you dont need it currently because jb roms work with the ics bootloaders, for now. they may continue to work forever but, realistically speaking, you will need or want to have a jb bootloader at some point, either this one or a newer one, i can't say.

i would figure that if there isnt a different jb bootloader now that we have source, we're not going to get one until vzw or google packages a toro update=that includes a bootloader and radios.

Re: [GUIDE][7/6] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

I really like the fact that our seven month old phone has the latest software.
What other phone has a jb rom? I don't think any atm. GS3, one-x - nope.
EVERY other phone is lame compared to ours. :)
