[GUIDE][8/1] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Lol I hope that doesn't happen!

384 is safer. My phone hasn't played nice with anything past that on Jelly Bean (yet).

Re: [GUIDE][7/12] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Newbie here ... I am unlocked, rooted and running a Jelly Bean ROM on Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Thanks to this Forum.

I wanted to establish an ongoing procedure for myself to flash ROMs (I got the current ROM on by trial and error). Is this the correct procedure:

INSTALL ANOTHER ROM

Step 1: Go to this thread within forum and download the appropriate .zip file to obtain a Jelly Bean Rom
Step 2: Transfer the .zip file to the root of the /sdcard directory on your Galaxy Nexus
Step 3: Reboot into ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery (Hold Down "Volume Up, Volume Down" & Power buttons at the same time with the Phone Off)
Step 4: Select Recovery Mode: Take an Android backup of your device.
Step 5: Wipe data/factory reset, cache,go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache, go to mounts/storage and format system
Step 6: Choose install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > [file you downloaded in Step 2]. This will flash the Jelly Bean update on your Galaxy Nexus.
Step 7: Select "Go Back" and select "Reboot ..."

Thank you

Everything sounds good there. Make sure you also download and flash gapps unless the rom specifically says they are already baked in.

Okay, gapps is would be any associated Google Apps package (e.g., maps, mail, etc.) correct?

Re: [GUIDE][7/12] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Okay... did the bump upto Bugless Beast and so far, I like it alot...!! QQ though, I went to look for the theme mods, i.e. circle battery, white clock, reboot, etc...and cant find them for BB... I found them for Jelly, but not BB... does anyone know if there are any...? Thanks again...

It should be the one listed by the dev in the op. You flash that immediately after you flash the rom. Do not reboot after you flash the rom if you haven't flashed gapps yet.

Got it ... I see those types of instructions here [ROM] Jelly Belly v3.4 - 07/12/2012 - [JellyBean] [4.1.1] [Pure AOSP] - It's all about speed! - [VZW] Galaxy Nexus Development - RootzWiki

It appears I need to download / transfer and flash three zip files:

1. JB bootloader
2. ROM
3. GApps

This is my experiment for this rainy Saturday, thank you.

RW usually has mods listed either in the ROM thread or in the general themes section if any are available. XDA has a themes section as well. I'm running Jbelly so have not looked for BB mods.

I've been looking around all morning, but haven't seen any MODs for the 4.1.x of Bugless Beast... If anyone happens to come across a link, please pass it along... thanks....

just remember, you only need to flash the bootloader once, not every time you change a rom (as long as they are all jelly bean based - for ICS, youll need the ICS bootloader)

GApps however, needs to be flashed each time, even if you dont wipe in between

I have flashed the large menu key mod and reboot menu mod meant for belly onto bb no problem.

Below was my procedure over the last 24 hours using a MacBook Air and Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Hope it helps others.

Pre-work: BackUps / Ability to Transfer Files
  • Step 1: Backup Applications, Media and Data
  • Contacts, Calendar, Bookmarks, etc: Google
  • Settings, Backup & Reset: check Back up my data and Automatic restore
  • Step 2: Photos, Media: DropBox
  • Settings: check Camera Upload
  • Step 3: Applications, Media & Data: MyBackUp Pro
  • Backup: check Applications / Media
  • Step 4: Install?Android File Transfer here
  • Allows you to transfer files from Mac to Phone
  • Step 5: Check USB Debugging
  • Allows Mac to see / transfer file from Phone
  • Menu / Setting / Applications / Development

Pre-work: Unlock and Root via Mac
  • One Step_Double-click method?here

Pre-work: Download and Transfer .zip files to the root of the /sdcard directory
  • Step 1. Download JB Bootloader zip (only need to do once for Jelly Bean ROMs) onto desktop and then transfer to /sdcard of phone
  • Step 2. Download ROM and any Gapps zips (need to get latest every time) onto desktop and then transfer to /sdcard of phone

Installing ROM:
  • Step 1: Consider installing CWM Recovery touch to avoid possibility of back button becoming disabled
  • Step 2: Reboot into ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery (Hold Down "Volume Up, Volume Down" & Power buttons at the same time with the Phone Off)
  • Step 3: Select Recovery Mode: Take an Android backup of your device.
  • Step 4: Choose install zip from sdcard>choose JB Bootloader .zip from sdcard. This will flash JB Bootloader onto Galaxy Nexus (only need to once for Jelly Bean Roms)
  • Step 5: Wipe data/factory reset, cache,go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache, go to mounts/storage and format system
  • Step 6: Choose install zip from sdcard > choose ROM .zip from sdcard > This will flash the Jelly Bean ROM onto Galaxy Nexus.
  • Step 7: Choose install zip from sdcard > choose Gapps .zip from sdcard > This will flash the Gapps onto Galaxy Nexus.
  • Step 8: Select "Go Back" and select "Reboot ?"

Reinstall Apps/ Media / Data Backups
  • Step may be unnecessary for Apps and Data (may need SMS and Call Log though)

Thank you!?

Re: [GUIDE][7/12] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

I'm just curious, but is flashing the JB bootloader just like flashing anything else? Honestly, I don't even know what a "bootloader" actually is. I've been (and will continue to, for the time being) avoiding flashing that, though I imagine I will eventually.

Does it affect root/ unlocked status in any way? As in, once you flash it, do you have to re-unlock, re-root, and get CWM back on there? Or, again, is it just like flashing a ROM/ kernel?

Its done just like flashing anything else. You do boot loader, ROM, gapps. In that order without rebooting until all 3 are flashed. It has no effect on root or unlock status.

Also, BB will have a new version tonight for those who are interested. Should fix the remaining issues.
