[Guide] How to get the Gingerbread OTA update and stay rooted!

OK, it's been 1/2 a day, so it's time to change things.. haha

The de/odexed versions of the maintenance release for GB are out now..

link from G&E

I'm guessing the steps would be the same as listed in the first post, no?

Would I have to flash the radios again as well?

If you are coming from the rooted stock GB rom then you don't have to wipe.

Here is xHausx xda link: Rooted 4.24.651.1 Odexed & De-Odexed + Extras

Your radios will always stay until you change them.

I have noticed a new problem though.

The wifi doesn't work right. It loses signal a lot and doesn't seem to want to download.

For example, I was just downloading the netflix update from the market. Started download on wifi. VERY slow transfer.. 10 minutes go by and it's at 2%.. This is both downstairs from my router and then in the same room as my router... I try canceling and restarting a few times - no help. I click wifi off and *poof*, 3G downloads it in a flash.

Is there a chance that the radio software I flashed is somehow not configured correctly or something?

You can try a simple troubleshoot to see if it helps. You can try wiping your cache and dalvik cache. That sometimes works when having problems.

I'm trying to update to 4.24.651.1 de-odexed from xHausx's 4.22.651.2 de-odexed and getting an error. I DLed the file (no MD5 hash is given that I can see), copied it via USB-MS to the SD card after making my nandroid backup, wiped cache and Dalvik and then attempted flashing, but got this:

Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:Missing file: system/app/Superuser.apk
E:Verification failed

Zip verification failed!
Zip isn't signed correctly!
Installation aborted.

I had toggled on signature verification. I opened the zip file in WinRAR and the "missing" file is in there.

UPDATE: I redownloaded from another host and saved it under a different name and attempted update and got the same error about missing Superuser.apk

Looked for the error and found this post which recommended turning off file verification and that worked. I hadn't turned it on before (i.e. when I flashed last time), so go figure.

Looks like the compass got fixed.

Has anyone yet come up with root for unrooted 2.3.3

Re: [Guide] How to get the Gingerbread OTA update and stay rooted

Hey everyone, was able to update the first part fine but when I try to do the combo radio update I don't think it's working. I boot into clockwork recovery via rom manager, select the zip file and some commands flash down within split seconds which I cannot see and then it brings me back to where I was, never reboots itself. I select reboot then check the version and my baseband version is 2.15.00.11.19. Wondering what I could try next??

Thanks

Try this out. Go back into ROM Manager and select "Flash Alternate Recovery" this will install Amon_RA as our recovery. Which is a much better one IMHO. Make sure the radio zip is on he root of the sd card. Once that's done power off the device and boot into the bootloader. Wait just a second and then reboot into recovery. Once there proceed to the "wipe" menu. Wipe cache and dalvik cache then go back main menu of recovery. Select the "flash zip from sd"... you should then see a list of the contents of your sd card. Scroll down to the radio zip and select it. If will ask if your sure you want to install...select yes and let it do its thing. It will ask you to during the process to reboot the device via the main recovery menu, do this and again let it do its thing. Once its completely done you will be at the main recovery menu again. You'll see at he bottom of the screen it says formatting cache...
Don't worry about that, just reboot the system and your all done. Enjoy Gingerbread, hope that help. :-)

Ok, I'm showing my newbieness here but how do I go into the bootloader again? Before when I was running the Sprint Lovers ROM and I hit the power button I would have other options that I do not anyone since running the Gingerbread update. Only was I know of now is through ROM Manager. Yeah, I already have the combo radio zip on the root of the SD card from my previous unsuccessful efforts to update the radio:(

Re: [Guide] How to get the Gingerbread OTA update and stay rooted

Volume Down + Power.

Ok, is that with the screen off, unlocked, etc? When I try this it does nothing newer from just pressing the power button alone which brings me to power options.

Re: [Guide] How to get the Gingerbread OTA update and stay rooted

You'll need to have your phone turned off completely before doing it. From bootloader you can get into recovery.

Make sure there's no PC36IMG.zip on your SD card first.

I missed the second part, I just noticed that I have a PC36IMG.zip & PC36IMG-ENG.zip on the root of my SD card. I can't remember what these are for again.
