[GUIDE] How To Root/Unroot The Thunderbolt with Revolutionary

I am guessing the same thing is happening to me also. I was out trick or treating ( with my daugther ) took my phone out of my pocket and my phone was useless. There was a android with a exclamation point :( I reboot my phone. get to the lock screen and then it just shuts off again :(, will this method make my phone useable again, I really don't want to reactivate my iPhone after 2 days of having my thunderbolt.

Yes... loading the RUU through hboot is pretty much your only option to get the phone working again.

when you say drop the file on the SD card, do you mean the zip or after extracting the zip and then dropping it on the card?

I recieved the OTA update today, went to root the phone, now it wont root. It freezes every time after it asks if i want to install clockworkmod. it will then say rebooting to fastboot, reboot the phone to the bootloader but wont accomplish anything after that. Im assuming its the OTA update causing this.

is there any other reason it would be doing this, i have usb debugging on, fastboot off. when it boots into the bootloader on the phone it shows s-off has and revolutionary at the top, it begains by saying fastboot usb, then it changes to saying just fastboot

Did you flash the SU zip from the guide... if you did, try flashing it again. Sounds like the bootloader is unlocked but you're not rooted. Sometimes it takes a few times to stick for some people.

yes, i have coppied the SU file still zipped onto the root of the sd card, have tried this about 12 times so far and still no luck.

need a little help in the beginning. The rev app is saying that i have an invalid key. I cut and pasted the key as well as entered it in manually.

Hey I have a couple questions if anybody could help me with whats going on.

I download the two files, get my beta key, flash the recovery all no problem but when its time to click volume down to go to recovery, then hit power to go into the revolutionary recovery where i flash the zip it doesnt work.

WHen i reboot and hold volume down/power and get to the bootloader, everything looks fine and i see recovery as my second option i should be able to volume down once and power to select it but it doesnt let me. when it checks my sd card real quick its suppose to go right back to the screen right away where i can do this but instead it checks sd card and then says apply update if i hit yet, it reboots my phone and downgrades it to a real low android os version?? if i hit NO it then just reboots my phone.

Its a cycle where i cant go down to recovery and click it.

I made a mistake last time when this kept happening i got frustertedand finally clicked the update and it messed up my phone bad and downgraded my 2.3.4 to like 2.1 and everything was all slow and outdated.

IF someone could please help me on why this is saying this and not switching back to the bootloader where i can select recovery i would appreciate it, thanks!!!

I have a question.. i downloaded the update that I was having problem with.. I wanna try and root my phone again, I go to step 10 and follow the directions.. when I try and hit the power button on recovery, It wont even let me get into the recovery, I get a wierd animation and then a picture of a phone with a big red exclamation point.

Ok, so I just rooted my TB spur of the moment yesterday using revolutionary. I was running 2.3.4

I managed to root successfully, and immediately used the clockwork Rom manager thing to save a backup of my Rom to come back to later in case I deleted stuff I didn't want to.

I decided to try and throw on one of the bamf roms. I got stuck in a boot loop. I ended up booting a recovery, wiping all my phone data + factory reset + cache clear and retried installing the Rom with success. I got past the boot loop running bamf remix.

Awesome! The unfortunate part is that I didn't like the look of it much, and was a sad panda because all my stuff was wiped... So this morning I figured I'd restore back to the Rom I saved immediately after I rooted. That way I could correctly back up my apps and data with titanium and then try a new Rom.

I successfully booted back into my originally backed up Rom, but I realized quickly... Verizon bloatware aplenty! What!? ...try to take a screen shot... "Your phone is not rooted."

I'm UNROOTED. Help! Lol. Why did that happen? I loaded a rooted Rom... I'm confused.

ambienteternith,

Did you check to see that the only zip file on the root of your SD card is the SU file? It sounds like you have a PG05IMG.zip file there. I there is, delete it, try to get back into recovery, it will take a minute to check for update or PG file, then release access to you to use the - vol (down option)

Thanks for replying.

I took a good hard look and the only zip file I see on the root of the card is the SU file.
