[GUIDE] How To Root/Unroot The Thunderbolt with Revolutionary

I'll update the OP tomorrow for everyone... sorry, been busy writing guides for the GNex.

I haven't followed the Bolt in a month or so... what exactly are you guys doing?
-Downgrading to 605.5
-Running the root program
-Then quickly flashing a custom ROM or the 605.9 RUU?

The phones not pushing the new update as soon as you reboot the phone from rooting?

I am telling people to flash a custom as soon as possible so they dont forget, or get the angry llyod on the next update...

I've been trying this for a few hours now but keep getting the same error message below when I try to enter the BETA key. Any advice? Thanks. (Asterisks put in for obvious reasons) :-)

Hi, was just wondering if anyone had an alternate upload of the stock image(s)?

Multiupload has been down since the 18th. I have to send my phone back in for a replacement, meaning I need to unroot, and everywhere I look the files are on multiupload, which is down.

****EDIT!!

I will leave the post below just for others to read my personal experiences. I can't explain why the program was hanging. I tried multiple times on a brand new laptop with no luck. Pulled out my old one of 5 years old and first time through it worked. I was sweating there for a bit but everything is good now.

Hey folks. I wondered if I can get some help. I seem to be stuck partway through the root process and can't get any farther. I did downgrade and wipe from .9 to .5. So I am sitting with a clean phone. Followed the tutorial and Youtube vid, but I am stuck at:

"Downloading recovery for your phone (mecha)...Done
Rebooting to fastboot..."

And it hangs here. I do note that when it reboots my screen shows FASBOOT USB for a few seconds, then goes back to FASTBOOT. Don't know if this is normal or not.

I am in USB debugging mode, and Charge Only. The drivers are installed. The screen says "Revolutionary" and "S-OFF" so I got that far, but it won't write the Clockwork recovery.

I saw on the front page that I can copy the CWM file onto the drive, but there was also the ADB and Fastboot tools that I really do not know anything about.

Can anyone please help? Thanks.

I've been trying this for days. Over and over. Making sure my PC is clean and correct, making sure all the settings on the TB are correct. Flashed it back to factory to make sure. Just fiddling around trying anything to get this thing rooted so I can use sense3+.

When running rev (as Admin in w764b) I always receive the following message. I would absolutely appreciate someone's help and a little hand holding. I've been in IT for 12 years and a decent PM for the last 4, not categorically ignorant but feeling close because I cant figure this out.

I need to go back to stock but mega upload is shut down....anyone know where I can get the rom and hboot? Please help.....

Anyone know where I can get these files so that I can complete this "un-root?" I thought we stopped SOPA and such?

After getting the bootloader back to the original s-off, engineering 1.04.2000 hboot download these 2 files:
1) PG05IMG_1.70.605.0_nohboot.zip

and
2) PG05IMG_hboot_only_1.04.0000

Had to get a refurb and this worked perfectly, reloaded my nandroid and my phone was back to where it was in a couple hours. Sweet! Thanks to all!

when i go to run recovery it goes to a black screen with a red triangle what do i do from there did i do something wrong!?

I was researching how to downgrade my HTC Thunderbolt software version .9 to software version .5 and this information seems a bit confusing. I have to do this in order to root the phone using the revolutionary program. Could I please have some assistance? The rooting of the device is easy and straight forward but to get there it seems that I have to downgrade my software.

edit:
Im rooted now!

I followed the directions to a T - both on this thread and the XDA-Developer's .9 to 2.11.605.5 reversion...

it still works!

Now if that unrooted and debloated 2.11.605.9 OTA update from JCase can be re-hosted somewhere... I'll be happy.

ONE QUESTION: How can I be sure to no longer receive automatic OTA updates? Does the rooting process itself block further pushes, or is that something I need to manually do? I ask, because I have no plans for custom ROMs at this time....

Thank you all for your efforts!
