[GUIDE] How To Root/Unroot The Thunderbolt with Revolutionary

cool thanks. Didnt use revolutionary, did it the old way when phone first came out. So, about the links to the no_hboot file. keeps failing, and unaable to download. any way you could dropbox it or update the link?

You sure.. just tested and the links are working. One thing I just remembered though.. that noboot file is huge and needs to be downloaded from a computer and then placed on the phones SD card. ...that's probably why you're getting the failed to download message.

I doubt it will download from your phone... but your best bet is to connect to a strong wifi signal and keep trying until it eventually completes the download... again I doubt it will work but its worth a shot if you don't have a computer.

Or see if someone is willing to download it for you and send it to your phone.
 
Thanks for the help folks. Only way I have tried to download is with a computer. Not even tried with phone. Thanks again. I will keep trying and if download doesn't go then I will wait and get it from trter10-2
 
well, think i'm screwed, but i am concocting a plan. usb is borked, and with shadowmite's bootloader patch the flashing of the new bootloader gave a message of" bypassed." I am now on unrooted stock 605.9 with shadowmite's patch hboot s-off and no way to adb any change to my bootloader. Can I flash the 605.5 firmware, and root it with something like z4 or one of these one-click things? I dont like them and usually do all my modding via ADB, but I am about out of options. I was thinking that I could get root on 605.5 and then get that thunderbolt restore app and see if it will put s-on back, but i need root to use it. any suggestions, comments, advice?

Is there a cwm or twrp in pg05img format that I can flash through hboot? Was also thinking that if I can find an ruu that is stock rooted in pg05img I might could flash that in hboot since I do have s off.
 
so I can just flash this through hboot, then flash superuser.zip through recovery, or do I need to downgrade to 605.5 first? Seems downgrading is just to enable one to run revolutionary, but not sure. And as far as flashing superuser.zip, can i just grab the one from revolutionary and flash it no?
 
worked perfectly! back to stock firmware with s-on. you guys are great here, thanks so much for the help. I flashed cwm through hboot, then superuser.zip through cwm recovery, then used the Thunderbolt Restore app, and its all good.

Oh, i was gonna tell you to use adb over wifi to push an hboot image to your phone and then apply it (theres a way to so it while its booted up)
 
Well I Do appreciate it and I thought that might be an option but I literally just did this so I can hurry to fed-ex and drop it off.... 5 day limit is almost up. Thanks again!
 
I think I had read through this thread and instruction, watch video dozen times but still can?t find what?s wrong or same case that can't resolve. Guess I still miss something. I am not able to pass step 8. Now I have Revolutionary and S-OFF, HBOOT 6.04.1002. Android 2.3.4, ROM 2.11.605.9.
After Press y, it prompt: Downloading recovery for your phone (mecha)?Done.
Rebooting to fastboot? then stays here.
On phone, it does boot to Fastboot, but try step 9 anyway never get to step 10. Greatly appreciate any advice point me to right direction. Thank you very much.
