Guide on data2ext!

Re: Help please data2ext.;)

It hasn't happened recently (in the last 36 hours or so) but twice yesterday my data2ext seemed to reset. According to the terminal data2ext was still enabled but the system only saw the internal space. The only method that worked to restore it was a nandroid restore. I'm wondering if this is a personal issue or a problem with the data2ext4 script itself.

FWIW, mine has not done this. Nor have I had any issues with data2ext ...

Re: Help please data2ext.;)

You do the ROM first (including gapps). Reboot.
Once that is done:
1. partition your sdcard from advanced menu in recovery (to preferred size)
2. Data2ext CyanogenMOD - UPDATE 26/01/11 - xda-developers

I use ext4 and it works great! :D Good luck. If you follow those steps exactly as I have listed and exactly as the data2ext is listed, you will have no problems. :)
I tried this, it did not work for me! still only have 165mb of internal space.
I flash rom, the gapps, rebooted, flashed data2ext and tried to enable.

Edit 1: got it to work

You have to partition your sdcard first. Then type into adb shell the steps I have listed on previous pages. I have also posted the links to the original procedure if anyone needs it on previous pages.

Re: Help please data2ext.;)

Am I the only one who went with 4 gb of partition space lol despite what the guide said that maximum should be 1 gb? I asked this before but didn't get any definite answers so I'll try again, but does anyone know what the downsides of having a partition >1 gb are? I've had 4 gb of internal now for the past week or so and everything works fine.

Re: Help please data2ext.;)

It shouldn't cause any issues its just unlikely that anyone would use 1gb let alone 4gb. Lol

Lol what he said. I'm halfway through my 1 gig and may go 2 if I find another 100+ apps that I just must have lol

Re: Help please data2ext.;)

I have alot of apps and only have 220mb full out of 1gb. Lol. Love this mod!

Re: Help please data2ext.;)

Does anyone thing that the reason I'm having issues is the fact that I used my PartedMagic Live-USB to shrink my FAT32 partition and create my ext4 partition? It hasn't happened again so I don't know if it needs fixing but, for the 'format partition' step I shrank my FAT32 partition from the entire drive to everything but the last 1024 MB and created an ext4 partition in the last 1024 MB. I did this with my microSD card in my laptop's card reader.

Also, I decided to use a 1GB data2ext4 partition because my brother has an Evo and he actually managed to fill the thing. He's removed apps since then but I was flabbergasted. So, I'm trying to avoid the same issue.

Re: Help please data2ext.;)

what exactly is data2ext?

Is it to have more space for more apps? I'm currently almost full on apps and cannot download anymore because my cache says I only have 8MB left but my internal memory says I have over 50MB left.

So does data2ext fix this, by giving more space?

Re: Help please data2ext.;)

whoa, I read that and that looks really complicated. The problem that I have is that the guide you linked really isn't a noob (like me) guide. This is more of an advanced guide.

Is there a step-by-step guide here on androidcentral for noobs like myself?

Its simple as that! :p
I only linked that site because it answers your question that you asked...
The simple instructions have been written throughout this thread. Read through it a bit and I promise you can do it... Try it for yourself. Its the only way you will do it. :) I suggest using ext4 and a 1gb partition. Then just follow the appropriate instructions... Good luck. Let us know how it turns out!

Re: Help please data2ext.;)

im actually having trouble unmounting mmcblk0p2

Im using terminal emulator app and type su to get root access. Once I do that I type:
mount|egrep mmcblk0p2

and I get a message:
/dev/block/mmcbl0p2 on /sd-ext type ext3 (rw,noatime,nodiratime,errors=continue,barrier=1,data=writeback)

How do I get it to unmount?
edit: I tried "umount /sd-ext" without the quotation marks and it didnt work for me

Ok guys I'm goin to do a step by step how I did mines remember it has to be a fresh installed rom so nothing is mounted ok I will be back in 30
