Thanks for this information, Stig (and other contributors).

I am running stock froyo (went back to it from CM6). Unrooted, etc.

I have yet to receive the OTA notice, and when I check for updates, my dinc still doesn't get notified. My understanding is the official 2.3 OTA was already out. Am I missing a step?

I can't make the nag go away, when i try to rename the file it says that i dont have the right permissions and that it's read only. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the instructions. FYI. AppBrain failed me after doing a factory reset. It did not recognize the phone as the same. It created a new phone in my account, so it didn't provide the easy download/update process it is designed to do. However, I did have the list of apps from the "old" phone there so I just downloaded them the old fashioned way. BTW, it is nice every now and then to be forced purge old apps you don't use, especially as you approach your storage limits like I was with the new OS update.

Sorry for the n00b question, but I am currently rooted and running stock with the latest CWM Recovery. Suppose I install the stock recovery as well, and let the phone update. Suppose I don't care about losing root today.

1- Will anything bad happen to my phone?
2- Even if I lose root, will I lose S-OFF?

Your file manager should have a R/W setting on it that will allow you to modify the file. Different File manager's have it in different places. For example Root Explorer has a Mount R/W button right on the top of the screen.

If you want to unroot and use the Stock OTA you should follow the instructions here:

This will give you the Stock HBOOT and Stock Recovery as well as unrooted Stock Froyo. Then you can go get the GB OTA.

You should be able to flash the rooted update above by just clearing cache and Dalvik Cache (Under Advanced) in Clockwork Recovery - Make a backup first!

You may have to re-install a few apps, but others have had success by just flashing without doing a full reset. If there are problems though then you will either have to do a factory reset or restore your backup, go through the unrooting steps and then apply the OTA.

You will not be able to apply the OTA while you are rooted, the HBOOT and Recovery files on a rooted phone are not compatible with the OTA.

ok thanks.
I wiped my storage by accident and had to restore from a backup.
The Davik cache is in the bootloader screen right?

And for everything else just go into each app and delete the cache?

No need to delete the cache in each app. In Recovery - delete cache is on the main screen, delete Dalvik cache is on the Advanced screen. Then flash in recovery.

The Radio (from the other thread) is loaded in HBOOT.

I feel like I'm chasing... or stalking you in the forums tonight LOL

Sorry, I am just not an advanced rooted guy..

Give me software like autocad, etc and I can customize and program the heck out of it with lisp routines etc lol.....

I appreciate it though. I really do.....I am not an XDA member....just too technical for me.
