[GUIDE] Rooting 3.7/Hboot2.02+ w/screen shots (1/27/2011)

I need some help. When I type "su" into the cmd promt, the promt says that permisson is denied. I followed each line item as it says on here up to this point, but now I'm stuck. How do I get past this part?

I just wanted to thank you for the detailed, well-written instructions. I had rooted and ROMmed an Optimus S and finally got up the nerve to do the EVO. Your guide worked like a charm! Thanks again! :)

Stuck on Part 8

I cant get past su, after pressing enter i get a permission denied in command and nothing on phone asking me to allow. any advice?

Make sure you exit out of Z4 on the Evo, then type in "su".

If you are still in Z4, you will not see the request to allow super user permission.

Hope this clears things up.

thanks.. but still nothing. should i be at the home screen on evo?

Yes. Rerun Z4. I had to do this. I don't remember if I rebooted the phone first. Try it without a reboot.

Remember to exit to the home screen BEFORE typing the "su" command on your computer.

still permission denied :(.. anything else. do you remember if your htc sync had found your phone yet. htc syn screen says no device connected. could that be the problem?

When you re-ran Z4, was it for the temporary root? If so, when it finished did it say "Temporary root applied!"? It took Z4 a while to run through the program for me.

As to HTC Sync it should NOT be running. Ignore any error message.

I re-read the instructions on page 1. Looks like a reboot won't frak your Evo.

EDIT: You beat me too it. Follow the directions to the letter. If you get stuck read the posts, other people have had your problem (whatever it may be) and gone on to successfully root.

Part 10 Busy box not found

after copy/past of part 10 i get busy box not found. any suggestions on how to continue?

ok, started the process, starting pasting lines to the command prompt, it says device not found. any clues

i got this far.

20. In the command window type:

Quote:
adb reboot bootloader

21. Select Bootloader from the menu with the power button, it will scan the renamed PC36IMG.zip file on the sdcard (Sprint Lover?s ROM), select Yes and apply the update, then select Yes to reboot when it?s done.

it did not do step 21. what do i do

Ever since I rooted and loaded Sprint Lovers using this procedure, my phone has used more battery and vertical scrolling is no longer smooth and fluid in various apps. I've ran through all the usual suspects as far as maximizing battery life (update frequencies, screen brightness, etc) but it is noticeably worse than it was stock. The scrolling is what really grinds on my nerves though.

Anybody else seeing this?

Just chiming in...I have only been rooted and using Sprint Lovers for a few hours but I have not encountered anything like that yet.

woo hoo. got it figured out, i am up and running. so how do i manage what uses the battery and all that good stuff? what is the usual battery life in root?

ok, i completed the rooting last night, and my phone is sucking battery juice like there is no tomorrow. what did i do wrong. when i look at what is using the battery, it says android system 100 percent usage. unplugged for an hour and i am down 25 percent, and i have an extended battery.
