[GUIDE] Rooting 3.7/Hboot2.02+ w/screen shots (1/27/2011)

Hi,
I don't mean to sound noobish when I ask this, but is the "The root files: http://www.multiupload.com/S5T9GCOKSF" download suppose to be 396 MB?

Alright im having trouble with step #4 again.... in the command prompt it says " abd' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" after i hit enter...help

You need to make sure your command prompt is in the right location.

this is not working for me

Can you explain a little bit more?

Yup

im stuck at step 11 it saying its no such file or directory

Did everything push OK in step 6?

First I would like to thank all the Rom developers and everyone that makes the tutorials. With out your help a lot of us wouldn't be this far. This is where I'm stuck at: I rooted with Unrevoked for the wireless tether, then I downloaded titanium backup to delete the stock apps. How do I plug in the phone and get to command prompts? Oh yeah...I followed a video and made a nand backup. How do I get to the major step of command prompt and Flash?

I did my GF's this weekend.
I was kinda intimidated by some things with this, but this version with screenshots made it pretty idiot proof if you read ahead a little.
Only had one hitch at the part of flashing the PCIMG file. Stuck at the white screen and then needed to batt pull. After batt pull booted into the ROM and I was like WTF? I batt pulled again and then it went to the Red Exclamation point like it should have.

Otherwise all worked very well. Her phone is rooted and she is enjoying much better battery life from a nice rom and kernal combo and PRI downgrade

I'm about to dive into this and have a quick question about backing up before rooting.

I want my Evo to be as it was before the root process. I tried the z4root 1.3.0 option as mentioned in the how to but apperently its not working. Titanium backup from the market says there is no root access.

Is there another way to back up your settings/apps/bookmarks etc after rooting?

i can get as far as the command prompt part, cannot locate the downloaded files with the command prompt

Where did you extract them to? did you Change directory in CMD prompt to point there?

I did from my work PC and I dont have the priveledge to CD due to our recent group policy changes so I just put them in the folder that my CMD prompt defaults to.

Thanks everyone for helping me. I am running a new Rom, and I have 6 more on my sdcard.

im stuck on #4. i finished the root file but how do i get to the md5 checum? i downloaded it but i dont see that screen you showed on the screen shot.

I'm not sure what you mean, just open the md5 checker, point it to the zip file you downloaded, let it generate the md5 and put your code in there, if it matches it will say it's good.

Run the md5.exe file. Copy the MD5 sum and then point to the file you want to check. It is really quite easy.

So open the EXE file to launch the program.

o ok thank you, didn't know that. this the first time i ever heard of Md5. and yes the codes did match and my phone has already been rebooted when i did these steps earlier.

p.s. do i have to backup my phone before rooting? going back to factory reset is no problem for me since everything i need is on my sd card
