[GUIDE] UPDATED: How to Root Your Sprint Galaxy S3

Did you ever find a way to root your phone using a Mac, I know this post is a year old, but as you can guess I'm not finding much that works.

I just want to say THANK YOU to all the posters, fellow noobs who weren't afraid to ask questions about it and the helpful ones who answered our many often times repetitive questions! I finally rooted my GS3 for the first time, choosing to use this method. Very happy to report success. It was very easy after reading the OP and posts a few times.

Thank you! I finally got my Sprint S3 rooted because of this guide! It took me a little while longer because of a broken charging port but I got it! Thanks again!

i tried to root my s3 everything goes smoothly in odin but once i get to recovery mode and try to install it says cant mount /sdcard/ what can i do about this

I have followed the rooting guide and used skunkapes rootkit on xda for newer gs3s. Everything goes fine on Odin, I flash the epic root zip, reboot, have super user app.... but then I try to update the bianires and it says root failed. not sure what to do I tried using both cwm and TWRP and still get the same results. any help would be appreciated. Running android 4.1.2

OK, let's make sure i understand exactly what you did. You say you flash epic root zip. I assume you first flashed the recovery tar file using Odin? Did Odin report "succeed 1 / failed 0"?

Did you make sure NOT to let the phone reboot after running Odin? Was auto-reboot unchecked? Did you remove the battery after running Odin, then reinstall and boot straight into recovery? If the phone boots normally after running Odin, and before you flash team-epic-root-from-recovery, the root process will fail.

Install root checker, and see what it says: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ails?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&token=DjWk2Q2d

i went through all the steps but when i try to find >teamepic root from recovery< its missing from the root of my sd card

I get to the twrp recover page and its asking for a password. If I get cancel I can find my zip file so that I can unroot my phone. Please help.

I saw mention of the toolkit method working for someone so researched it, found it and it looked good until...
Mod removed the link to the toolkit and the support thread was closed 3 days ago!

All I want/need is the hotspot and I'm guessing Sprint knows that's what a lot of us are after!!

Am I SOL, or is there any development ongoing? Is this being discussed anywhere as I can seem to find anything.
Thanks

No problem glad I could help. On a side note. I'm at a football stadium for my daughter's band competition (marching) and I have 4g lte for the first time. Almost 13mb down and almost 12mb up.:D
Hello, I followed all instructions and have spent hours as everyone else seems to have on this. I've run into the same issue as Lane has where after I've ran Odin, take out battery, unplug cable... when I load in recovery it will not mount the internal or external sd cards. I'm able to use the card fine and obviously as Lane said, why would the internal sd not be able to mount? What am I missing?
