[GUIDE]Updating to rooted gingerbread WITHOUT flashing a new ROM or wiping your phone

Mine failed. It stopped under verifying current system. Here is what it said.

Any idea to what the error means and why it failed? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm having this same exact problem. Any idea what it means and why it is happening?

Nope. Have no idea yet. I am trying to verify I didn't delete any system apps without me remembering but I am almost positive that I didn't. I have no idea why it is failing.

I'm going to try to clear out some space as both my internal and sd card don't have much extra space. I doubt that is what is causing the problem but I guess it couldn't hurt.

Oh I remembered that I had to delete Amazon mp3 and kindle because titanium wouldn't freeze it. I didn't think it would be a big deal because it's on the market. I'm re downloading and I'll update if it fixes.

Update: The market app doesnt replace the com.amazon.mp3.apk file back into the system folder =/ That's bad.

Update2: I have the apk file in there but I'm still getting this error

Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check('/system/app/amazonmp3.apk", "7b17b3c7E:uknown command [a83f07d28e67ecc9ac86f32fefae268" ,]

E:Error in /sdcard/OTA_Supersonic_4.22.651.2-3.70.651.1_releasefd659qys0dtscpjv.zip
(Status 7)

Installation aborted.

I'm giving up on this and just flashing the updated ROM. Oh well.

I'm all the way to the last boot and my phone keeps popping the HTC EVO 4G white splash screen with a quick vibration, then about 30 seconds later, it goes black and does it again. Been going on for about 15 minutes now. Don't want to pull the battery and mess anything up....is this normal??

Did some google searching....definitely not normal. Trying to wipe and flash a nandriod backup and that is giving me an "error while flashing boost image"

I think I just somehow bricked my EVO by flashing the new SU file. I had gingerbread installed and everything was fine until I tried to install the SU file.

Good to hear, I got mine to restore by flashing the newest version of CWM on and then restoring my nandroid. I think I'm going to wait a bit before I move to GB now...

Got similar error as others: "Multiple firmware images" and "Can't store zip image". Any suggestions?

I have a question about:

3. Using Rom Manager, flash Amon RA Recovery 2.3 (Down at the bottom)

I just downloaded Rom Manger and selected the next to last item. It looked like it was flashing and then the phone locked up. I've been waiting for several minutes and it did not do anything.

Is this normal?

UPDATED: I pulled the battery and was able to complete step 3, but when I boot into recovery, I am not seeing the option to update from sdcard. I am only seeing fastboot, recovery ...

UPDATE2: Rebooted and went back into Rom Manger. It says that I have Recovery 2.3. I select boot into recovery. I have FASTBOOT and below that I have BOOTLOADER, REBOOT, REBOOT BOOTLOADER, and POWER DOWN. I don't see the option to do the step 5

5. Select apply zip from SD Card and flash the OTA zip file that you put in /sdcard

UPDATE3: Got passed step 5. I had to use the process here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026 to load the correct Recovery 2.3. The Rom Manger method did not work for me. I was able to upgrade. Now I hope to re-root.

I've tried several different root file managers and I can find the OTA in the cache file, but it doesn't let me copy it?

Is it normal for SuperUser to ask for permissions continually when trying to use something like TitaniumBackup? I use to use Z4Root to temp root and i don't remember SuperUser acting like this???
