Handcent sending duplicate messages! (not notifications- messages)

Just DL HC and very impressed. However, everyone I text regardless of provider will receive 2 if not 3 messages from me with the same content! Default text app turned off, HC is set to default. I am using a droidx on 2.2. Any ideas/fixes? I tried uninstalling- re-installing, same problem. Any ideas/fix? Thank you!

even though youre on 2.2, are you rooted and have installed a theme?

Hi, no I am not rooted. As for a theme, yes on Handcent. FWIW: I dl chompSMS and the duplicate messaging has stopped. I am very new to DX, coming from years of iphone use. Thank u for the reply.
