Happiness is owning a ThunderBolt!

I know I'm pitching a real ***** here about my Thunderbolt, but I really did love that phone at first, and I REALLY hope this latest update cures my rebooting problem because I really want to love it again (so far, it hasn't rebooted once since updating it Friday night)!

For everyone who is happy with your Thunderbolt, I'm glad for you, and hope it continues to please you!

You consider 4 or 5 reboots a week acceptable?!! Wow!

Does your PC randomly reboot 4 or 5 times a week? Would THAT also be acceptable to you?!!

I'm sorry, but my $250 smartphone should not be randomly rebooting AT ALL!!!

Dennis

With the amount of updates Microsoft has been pushing lately, my computer has been rebooting about that much... but with a warning. I dual boot ubuntu though, and if it reboots while I'm not at home, I can't logmein to see my files on my computer. So... by your standards, 4-5 reboots a week would be acceptable. I haven't had any, so I'm jolly as could be.

I love this phone too. Now that we got cm7 running good and stable on this phone, ill never look back to my og droid.

Guaranteed the bionic is going to be a huge disappointment, glad I went with the thunderbolt

Really?!! Are you loving how you can't plug the power cord into the phone when you're using the kickstand because the port is ON THE BOTTOM of the phone?!!

Dennis

That's a non-issue for me as I've never had the need to charge the phone at the same time I wanted to use it in landscape mode (I typically use in portrait). Even if I did have the need, it would be quite easy to workaround. :)

And yes, I'm dead serious about the kickstand! It's a killer feature! I use it all the time whether at work or home where the phone sits next to me on the desk on its kickstand (or on my nightstand as my alarm clock). No need for a dock or something else to prop up the phone. And with one finger, I can just reach over, hit the power button, unlock the screen and use the phone without having to pick it up!

Ummm ... I turn my phone upside down while plugged in so the plug is at the top and the kickstand supports it just fine. Are people really so lame that they didn't think of that?

Oh yeah, on topic, happiness is indeed owning a TBolt!

I just tried that and the kick stand closes my phone just falls over - but why turn it upside down? Just stand it up right, the kick stand is made to work in landscape AND portrait. I will use the kick stand in portrait for iHeartradio, Pandora music and front facing camera on Tango.

Ouch! Sorry Mike. My kickstand is very stiff in the open position and supports the phone in landscape mode in both upside down or right side up modes. It hasn't peeled either.

I was at first going back and fourth between the thunderbolt and the iphone but I decided this because I'm not a huge fan of the iphone. However i am totally happy about my purchase my only complaint is that the voice call quality is not as nice as my former blackberry devices.

The kickstand works in two positions, landscape and portrait. In portrait setting the port is on the side.

Granted, if you want to watch a movie while plugged in and using the kickstand you'd have to prop up the phone on a box or something. But I've watched a full 2+ hour Blockbuster movie on a single OM battery charge.

Today, long after reset, the performance of TB than I did yesterday, much better after the update.WOW Gear Even if it is a small bug here and there, you are right, it is still the best 4G mobile phones...

My experience has been all positive as well, love the phone. Never had a single random reboot and I routinely get 12-16 hours on a stock battery and stock software. The longest I've got off a single charge is a little over 28 hours. I guess the best way I can express my satisfaction with the product is by the fact that we bought a second one about a month back for my fiance, haven't had any reboots from it either.

12-16 hours? 28 hours? Going to have to say not a chance. Unless of course it was turned off for about 25 hours of those 28.

It last about 5 hours, tops, on stock battery, with medium flashy stuff running. No apps in the background and such, just a live wallpaper, low brightness and not checking any mail or such.

If I run it with the brightness I always have, checking email and such at regular decent intervals, check my mail on and off, play a few games, it will last about 2-3 hours. My first two weeks I put up with unplugging it before work and it being just about 10% left on my first break 2 hours later. Totally utterly pathetic and useless.

With the extended battery which I bought and love, with usage on 3 breaks during work, I get about 6-8 hours now.

If you hate the phone so much, you should have returned it before your 14 days were up! No one forced you to keep it. I love my Thunderbolt. Definitely has not been a dissapointment.

I'm going to have to say I'm starting to get slightly disappointed. I love the phone, I have no GPS problems and no peeling or any of that but I have massive rebooting problems, every day, no help from the latest update either. If I had the problems which I do now, as many others do, during the first 2 weeks, the phone would have been returned.

I will even go as far as to say if the iPhone had widgets, Google Maps navigation and a larger screen, I would have picked that instead. But hey, it doesn't, which is why I'm reluctantly putting up with this phone. For now.

It's kind of a weird situation. I love the iPhone for just simply working but hate the lack of widgets and Google Maps. I love the Thunderbolt for the awesome live wallpapers, customizability and Google Maps but completely hate the resets and force closes from poorly developed apps.

I think the idea is that people on these boards have been overly negative by hyperbolizing their issue and that it would be nice to have a little positivity. The phone is really great, and its issues has been blown way out of proportion. A little happiness never hurt anybody!

A 2 hour battery life and numerous resets no matter what the phone is doing, is not blowing it out of proportion. That's just complete crap.

I went from an iPhone 4 to the Thunderbolt. I could use the iPhone 4, which is always blasted for not having a replaceable battery, for about 2 days with moderate to heavy use. My Thunderbolt, on stock battery, lasts 2-3 hours doing nothing in my pocket, then it dies.

So going with that cool feature of having a battery I can replace myself, assuming I want to use my phone for 2 days without plugging it in, I can either carry just an iPhone 4 or my Thunderbolt and about 24 extra batteries in a cool backpack designed for the purpose.

Those problems aside, if they could fix the random reboots and make it, you know, STABLE, I would much rather just stick with the Thunderbolt. I'm getting extremely fed up with the random reboots.

No my pc every time I turned it on had to download an update then do a restart ( same as a random reboot IMHO, because it interrupted my work) that's why I own a mac now. My advice to you would to NOT buy technology that is new as there are always glitches. Wait a year or two.

Sorry, I just jumped in and have no back ground on how long you've had the TB. When I first got my TB on March 17th, I had the same disappointment with the battery. I read that the OM battery needs about 5 complete cycles before it gets better - and it DID get better. My battery now will last 6-10 hours depending on use. I bought an extra battery and double charger, I carry the extra battery with me every day and swap batteries in the after noon and get a full 12 hour day with power to spare. If you do a search, you will see tons of posts on TB batteries and what people did to improve theirs.

I never had the reboot problem - but I hear this new OTA update has "fixed" the problem - I downloaded the new update and have better GPS now and none of the other problems people have listed (battery life could still use improvement)

Did you down load the new OTA update, and if so, are you still having the reboot problems?

Waiting two years to buy in today's technology fast pace is a bit extreme...even for me! ;)

2 hour battery? I've had some bad battery experiences, my lowest being about 6 hours (not long enough to get through a school day), but 2 hours? I've never even heard that. Is Blockbuster running in the background? That thing is a battery hog. With the newest update, I can't honestly say you will get two days without charging (I haven't tested the battery not doing anything), but I got an entire day yesterday on a single charge with fairly heavy use (lengthy phone calls, frequent internet use). I haven't had any reboots since the update, even though I only had one or two before, and I've heard similar things on this board.

Look, the reason I say that things have been hyperbolized is because, statistically speaking, the people who have the most problems are the ones who are the most outspoken, making it SEEM like the majority of owners are having problems with the phone, while those of us who are perfectly content with their phones don't say anything.

Don't tell me I should've returned my phone within the first 14 days - the problems with data connectivity and GPS signal were not bad enough at first to return it, but they started getting progressively worse as time wore on. Then, coupled with an OTA update put out by our own service provider that, for all intents and purposes, practically bricked my phone, just exacerbated an already bad situation. On top of that, the fact I've been made to live with MANY, MANY random reboots for nearly 60 days is just inexcusable; it's made my experience with this phone, which I REALLY loved at first, the worst cell phone experience I've EVER had!

On top of that, I was sent TWO Droid Charges to replace my defective Thunderbolt - those two phones had even MORE problems than my Thunderbolt, so I ended-up sending those back and keeping the T-Bolt.

Dennis
Just curious as to what problems you had with the Charge that made it worse than the Thunderbolt. I was going back and forth between the two phones. I ended going with the Charge due to the battery and reboot issues with the Thunderbolt. I was a little surprised by your comment regarding the Charge. I know there is a slight lag due to filing system but that's the only complaint I've seen regarding the Charge. What issues were you having?

I've had hardly any problems with my ThunderBolt even with MR1 and thus have always been very pleased with the phone. But I expect to update quickly as soon as there is a similar phone with VoLTE capability, higher res screen, maybe 4.5" screen, and integrated modem chip for better battery life. Dual-core and 1GB+ RAM should be a given at that point. I was expecting to upgrade around Decemberish, but this is now less likely depending on long VoLTE is delayed unless VoLTE is guaranteed for the device without the need for any kind of firmware update and I wouldn't expect (or be convinced by) such a guarantee. Any suggestions on something else I should be waiting for?

Thanks, Robrecht
