Has anyone else besides me decided to return their Photon?

Every Android phone can multitask beautifully! Are you not aware how to? Simply hold the home button down and you will see all open apps. Android was built for multi-tasking!

This is not entirely accurate. It will generally show your 8 most recent apps, whether they are currently open or not. Also, "open" is a fuzzy concept with android. The OS likes to do its own process cleanup, so it will keeps processes running in the background if it wants, and end them if it wants. This why task killers exist, but there is a great deal of controversy about their usefulness.

I got "perfect task switcher", which seems less likely to toss me back to the home position and more likely to return me to my previous state than either the long press on home or home-app. It also let's me see what is actually running, and what's been closed, which is less frustrating than learning an app was closed when I restart it.

Multitasking on android sucks, Imo. It randomly closes stuff thatatters while keeping unimportant stuff running and chewing up resources. Oh well.

Also bought swiftkey. It slows me down a lot, as compared to just typing on a physical keyboard, but it is a huge improve events over the stock keyboard.

I like swype also, but I think I prefer SwiftkeyX. It seems to have far better correcting abilities.

Puzzlegal,

I think that you issue may have been that there is a SwiftKey setting that when you press Space it instead inserts a prediction. Try Spacebar will...: "Always insert a space"

That would explain the random words you are getting when you type! I added this in the Keyboards section of the Getting Started under SwiftKey:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SwiftKey Settings: Tap Home > Menu > Settings > Language & keyboard > SwiftKey X
? Advanced > Spacebar will...: "Always insert a space" gives 3 real predictions. Warning: Defaults to Insert a prediction.
? Advanced > Keyboard feedback: To customize keypress vibrations.
? Advanced > Quick ".": If on, press space twice to get a period. You probably want this off.
? Theme > Theme: To select Light, Dark, or Neon Theme.
? Theme > Arrow keys: To add arrow keys to the keyboard.

I'm keeping mine. After 3 Evo 3D's and it's terrible radio's, I thought it was time to move on. I like the Photon. It's solid and it does what it's supposed to do first...is be a phone!

Yeah you would have had to be a WebOS user the past couple years to know where these guys are coming from on multitasking. Flipping through cards (apps) is simply wonderful in WebOS. Too bad the hardware was terrible, and an app developer base never caught on like iOS and Android. Ah well.

Well I was a pre owner and although cards are a good little gimmick, simply tapping the home button and seeing your open apps right there in one nice and neat spot is much better then having cards all over the screen.

EVO-LUTION 3D

Another great keyboard (and I've tried most of them) is SmartKeyboard Pro. Swiftkey.made.me.type.like.this.
I also like smart keyboard pro. It is what I currently use. I like that it has the compact QWERTY keyboard. That really helps me because I have big thumbs. I tried swype but it doesn't really work for me. Also, smart keyboard has auto text like my old BlackBerry. It's been awesome for me.

Glad you agree. I try many others and keep coming back.

I love my Photon! Much better then that...that...THAT pos called the squeeevo 3Deevo! J/K! It was an alright phone but the radios sucked a$$ in all 3 I had. The Photon is so much better. I'm glad I jumped ship...in the right direction!!

Second one returned just now as the replacement was far worse than the original....and I really, honestly loved the form factor and call quality...when it was able to make calls and no shutting itself off.

If it can't make calls without locking up, going silent or shutting down, it's pretty darned useless IMHO.

So now, it's back to the BB Tour and wait till something reliable shows up.

It is a software issue, not hardware. Motorola is already aware of it and is supposed to be releasing a fix soon.

I don't understand - these phones are tested and tested and you mean to tell me that NOBODY had a rebooting issue? I hope that's all it is for Proton owner's sakes...I'm getting a Bionic soon (hopefully) and I hope we don't have those issues! Good Luck!

keep in mind the eve 03 d had the same problem I went through 3 of them, which is why I switched out of the Evo after the Photon came out. Also, mine (knock on wood) has never had a problem with rebooting. I would just keep returning them until you get one that works. That is if you like the photon and want one that works.

The screen isn't as gorgeous as the screen on the EVO3D, but it seems clear and pleasant enough to me. Of course, I used to use computers with giant fuzzy pixels on their screens, and the LCD I use at work is more visibly pixelated than the Photon's screen.

My issue (having picked up the phone yesterday) is the battery life. It's not yet 10 and it appears to be down to 1/2! We shall see how that goes.

I actually returned my 3d for a Photon and the screen on the Photon seems brighter.

I like the screen well enough, but it doesn't have that rich smooth georgous look that the SMOLED ones have. I can see someone chosing that over other features. You spend a lot of time looking at your phone.

Ahhh this is the post I needed to see. I watch movies A LOT on my Epic and I would most DEFINITELY notice the screen resolution of these phones. I have come to the conclusion that Samsung (whether they put a good/bad phone out!) has me with their mini-sized HD screens in the palm of your hands. I'm just in love with SMOLED screens! Thats what sells me! :) I'll be awaiting the SGS2 with the Super AMOLED plus screen!
