Has anyone else had both amazing and bad battery life?

A few days ago I had 40hrs, 5hr screen time, and still had 25%. In similar usage the past 2 days, I've had only about 16-18hrs 2hr screen time. The biggest culprit seems to be Android System, or Home Launcher.

Anyone else has similar issues? I'm still very happy, as I was always charging my SG3, but I'd like to have a more consistent number that I can rely on, and I believe that there could be a core issue that hopefully an update would address?

I am having this exact same issue that I am considering a factory refresh tonight. Today I only had 1.5 hours of on screen time with 8 hours off battery and <50% already. Before I had stellar life like the stats you mentioned.

Android system is eating up most of my battery life as well. 30% android 19% screen.

Are all of you on the AT&T version?

I'm using the AT&T version and have NEVER seen battery life like some of you mention. My best was probably about 15 hours with around 4 hours of screen time. This was a couple weeks ago. Still trying to find out why *wakelock* overflow is killing my battery so quickly.

The first day I had it,it was charging all last night. But around 4 it stopped. So it started discharging and counting from there,so it said I had about 15 hour battery life with 5hour heavy usage on screen time. So it was really something like 9 hours of using.

AT&T version yes.

I use a wakelock detector and battery monitor to try and figure out the source.

The biggest issue initially for me was Google services. I turned off all location services (android device manager, Google now, location services, etc) and that helped a lot. I consistently get very very good battery life, but occasionally not. My first issue was 3 days after I received the phone, did a factory reset, and it fixed the problem. I know there is another guy on the battery life thread trying to figure out the core issue as well.

Count me in too. I have the at&t version. I can have a couple of days of fantastic battery life, and then one day the phone's battery will be draining in my pocket. This battery is so good though, that on the days that it seems to be draining is comparable to a good battery day on my old android phone. It's not to big of a deal for me, but I would like to figure out what's going on. A restart usually fixes it.

I have notice the same thing that everyone else has mentioned. But i have noticed that the battery drain issue seems to be when i am on wifi most of the day. But when i turn off wifi and only use 4g I can go all day and night with medium use. When i am using wifi i can only go maybe 8 hours with light use. Has anyone tried going throughout the day with their wifi turned off?

Here was my best day, and was about half Wifi and 4g.

My plan is to compile whatever data that I've used, or can find from others, and make a guide on the forum. Just trying to ask everyone.

I asked about the carrier version because I'm beginning to believe that the trigger that can cause a wakelock in Android System is related to Carrier IQ. If you notice your phone draining too quickly when it should be in a deep sleep state, reboot your phone (preferred) or force stop Android System. Also, try charging you phone while completely shut down, and charge for a good 30 minutes past the 100% mark. If you need your phone on while charging, charge to full or close to full, shut down, then charge for a bit more.

I'm guessing you're getting this report on Better Battery Stats? Here is an explanation from the BBS FAQ:

Q: What is *overflow*?
*overflow* is a sign that one stat counter was overrun. This may happen if you have not booted your phone since long or if some wakeup/wakelock is very frequent. The only way to see what is hidden behind *overflow* is to reboot and take a fresh reading.

You probably have something ticking wakelocks frequently. You need to reset the counter and monitor before it hits overflow to see if you can isolate what is doing it.

I have wifi enabled whenever I'm at home or work, which encompasses about 20 hours of a typical day, and have not experienced any difference with battery drain.

When I first got my phone I gave it a test run. I turned the brightness all the way up and turned on the WiFi. I did a bit of web surfing and gaming. The screen never came off at any point during that test. I started at about 5:00am and it died around 1:54 pm. I was getting about 1 hour of usage per 10% battery life. The other day I got 13h 10m on battery with 5h 32m on screen with heavy usage and had 27% left on battery. Today I am at 51% battery left, 3h 30m on screen (61% battery usage), with 7h 10m on battery, though my usage today was heavy. I am using it now. I was expecting more from a 4050 mAh battery so I am disappointed. My phone battery sends me more mixed signals than that girl I like at work.

4050 mAh battery ???? i opnly have 3000 mAh battery on my lg g2. and i am having horrible battery life. well horrible compared to the rest of awesome battery stats ive been seeing. today is a test day, where i will use the phone mediumly vs heavily like always. so i will see. tomorrow i will go at it a little lighter.

So I have AMAZING battery life. It actually continues to get better. I will edit with my latest stats. But I got 40 hours and 6.5hrs screen time - this is about triple the battery life I would get from my N4. I am on Wifi most of the day and keep brightness at 35%. I do find that certain apps, if left running in the background, will DESTROY battery life. The main one I have found so far is CBS Fantasy sports. if I open this app and don't kill it, it will take down my battery single handed in like 7-8 hours. crazy
