Has anyone tried this Qi Portable Wireless Battery Charger?

I'm thinking of buying this Qi Portable battery pad from eBay.

The idea is that I can carry my (future) phone in my pocket (or in a bag, no biggie) and charge it without having to fiddle with cables. Has anyone tried this charger? Do you think this is a good idea?

Are they saying the charger isn't smart enough to stop feeding power to the phone even after it is fully charged? Sounds bad to me...

I'm not overly concerned about that, since I will only be using it on a need-to-use basis. I'm going to have a separate charger at home. This will just be for charging when I'm out of the house and I don't want to bring a charging cable. It's even more convenient because I can keep it on my person, charging it while walking around.

Then you had better carry a couple of good, strong rubber bands with you as you are going to need to keep the phone and charger contact stable and in the correct relationship to each other in order for it to stand a chance of working. Being a user of a regular table-top Qi charger, I can tell you that the "it works" / "it doesn't work" window is smaller than you might imagine.

So, rubber bands or a 4 inch long USB cable? Your choice.

Also, I wasn't nearly so concerned about draining the charger's battery (as the eBay listing warns) but about the possibility of overheating and/or damaging the phone's charging circuitry when the charger continues to pump out juice even after the phone stops requesting it. There are just too many unknowns here.

it looks nice but i don't like the proprietary port/plug charging cable. it's not microUSB. that's a deal breaker for me.

i'm waiting for the official OEM Nexus 5 wireless charger.

also - just the lack of interchangeability and versatility is poor. if you want to take it on a trip or move it from home/work/vacation you have to lug the special proprietary cable with you. i hate proprietary vs. standards and i refuse to support proprietary. use the standard or i won't buy it!

When I travel, I plan to use the regular ol' wall mounted plug.

Otherwise, I agree with you. I went with that charger because it's got the versatility of keeping my devices (I have a Nexus 7 also) in landscape or portrait mode, can allow me to still see/use my phone while it's charging due to the angle, and after reading reviews of other wireless chargers, this one always came out on top in terms of finding the "right spot" to begin the charging -- I keep reading you have to keep adjusting it until you hit the "sweet spot" with other chargers and that's just something I don't want to have to worry about. The whole idea, to me, is you place the phone down and don't worry about it.

Worse comes to worse, i'll just return it. But besides the proprietary wire, everything else sounds great. Not to mention, I like the design so it adds something to my desk, instead of just a mat. The only other thing that sucks is the price. Pretty high for a wireless charger...

As another poster indicated, it's much, much cheaper on Amazon. I have been using this for about 2 months (originally with my N7--2013 and N4, now with my N5) and it works flawlessly - no issues at all with using it as a battery pack. It's physically a bit larger than some other Qi-battery options, but still pocketable.

Nearly ?80 in UK! I paid about ?15for my charger.
