When ever my Android devices start to get hot and even lockup
The first thing I do is remove the SD card clean the contacts with an eraser gently
Copy the contents of the SD card to a folder and do a full format using SDFormatter V4.0
Then copy the files beck and refit the card the problem is solved

Welcome to Android Central! Good tip, thanks. A corrupt SD card (or a corrupt file on the card) is a relatively common cause for battery drain and overheating (due to the system's Media Scanner getting hung up on that corrupt file).
