Have the Tab S 10.5, ask me anything!

Okay, I'm not sure I am good at the newbie role but here goes.....

Just got the Tab S at Costco yesterday. I still can't figure out how to swiftly get to see all of the apps when I have one opened, say the Browser or MyFiles. In other words I want to get to my entire list of apps so I can open the GooglePlayStore or Kindle or whatever. I am use to BB devices and the Z10 and the Playbook where I can easily Swipe away and Active App and see icons for everything else. Yes, I'm sure I MAY get use to this interface.

But actually, the primary question that triggered this reply is, is there anything like Wifi-Sharing. Where I can easily use Win Explorer and move files between the Tab S and my computer using WIFI and not be tied to the more fragile usb port/cable setup? I did find AirDroid but it apparently does not allow the copying of FOLDERS which is kind of limiting. Any other apps with more horsepower?

Ah, so what do some of you think about the Logitech BT keyboard coupled with this tab?

Oh, while I'm at it - what is the mechanism whereby the case (included with the Costco purchase) or the Logitech keyboard/case can turn on/off the screen? A sleep magnet sensor and if so, where?

And there will be tons more questions unless I exercise Costco's return policy if I can't get comfortable with the Android way of things. But I have to say the screen is quite exceptional and it seems quite well-made.

Thanks in advance.

I recently purchased the Tab S 10.5. I want to download photos from my camera's SD card to the Tab S. I'm not exactly sure what kind of cable I need or how to proceed. I am about to go on a long weekend trip and want to take only my Tab S and no laptop, but want to be able to upload photos. Any recommendations on how to do this?

I'd also love any advice/recommendations on how to move files/data/apps from the Tab S to the micro SD card (app needed? which one?)

I'm pretty much a newbie at all this - first tablet. I have the Galaxy S3 phone; about to upgrade to S5. Thanks.

Thanks for spurring me.....

A few weeks ago I purchased a USB-to-go cable/adapter from Fry's Electronics. I just plugged it in to the usb/charging port and then plugged a usb thumb drive into it. WORKED.

So the question is does the camera have a usb connection that might work directly if plugged into a usb-to-go adapter. Or you can find a card reader that would plug in? Another alternative would be to get a micro-sdcard and an adapter to allow it to be used in the camera. Then remove the micro and plug it into the tablet. And finally, there are wifi cards for some camera and they can connect and use wifi to move/copy directly between camera and some tablet devices.

I just copied or moved files directly between internal and sdcard. I found it easiest to plug in the usb cable and use Win file explorer to move and copy stuff. But the My File app, I believe can do it solely on the device.

Still learning, here, too.

edited to add: Okay, found a usb cable (mini usb on camera end) and plugged it into the usb-to-go adapter and camera (Canon S95). Camera showed up on the Tab S and offered apps to open and move/copy the two pictures I just shot to the tab. I did so and then disconnected. Pictures are on the Tab S. Nice.

I'm in dilemma between Tab S and Note Pro.
Personally I prefer Tab S because of its superiority in display. However, what I'm looking for is a device for educational purposes (note taking etc.). Therefore, Note Pro seems to be a more suitable choice.

Just wonder if Tab S with a stylus pen can work as good as the Note Pro with its built in S-pen. Please give me some advice. Thanks.

I went from a Note 10.1 to the Tab S. For me, I wasn't a fan of the Note app or S-pen functionality, so I ended up using Graffiti Pro and a stylus for the Note, with the OfficeSuite app (compatibility with MS Office is important to me). I will be doing the same thing with the Tab S. Graffiti Pro is quite fast once you learn the characters. I was much faster with it than the Note app. Think of it as writing in shorthand.

Thanks! I wasn't sure exactly what kind of cable to get, but based on your info, I found what I think will work perfectly (Amazon). I'll have it Monday, so I'll know then if it works.

I have a Canon T2i, which is an older model with a fat digital usb cable (not mini usb), but it should work with the new cable; I also have an SD card reader that should work as well.

I haven't tried the file/data transfer to the SD card yet, but will work on that later today. Thanks for the info there as well.

I'll post back with results --

Hi dwd3885, I'm new to tablets and just bought the same Tab S as you only the 16Gb Bronze version. The screen is fantastic but I have a couple of problems at the moment. Firstly I want to transfer some movies & TV shows from my PC to the 128Gb SHXC card in the Tab S - so I selected 3 TV shows and 3 movies which I converted to MP4 using Pavtube video converter then transferred them my PC to the Tab S via the USB cable using the simple file drag and drop within Windows 8.1 Explorer directly to the SHXC card. It took hours then only the TV shows would play - excellent quality but none of the movies would play. I deleted all 6 files then tried transferring the same files again, this time using Kies3 - again it took hours with same results except one of the movies did play for about 3 or 4 minutes before a message popped up - can't remember exactly, something like Can't play this file - Try Again or Cancel. 2 of the movies are just under 3Gb and 1 is just over 3Gb. Now I have an even bigger problem - after numerous re-boots and checking the SDXC is correctly installed - for some strange reason my Tab S no longer recognises my SD card. Any Ideas ?

I only have a 64gig card I just got from Amazon and so far it appears to be working.

What is the format of the sdcard - exfat, I would guess.

What brand? If you use the usb cable, can you still see the card on your computer or might it have lost its formatting? Remove from Samsung and use a card reader on the computer - can you see the contents or are they bollixed up? And, yes, it can take a long time to move 3gig files.

I've had that "can't play file" on some of my transfers. I have to guess it is either the audio or video codec (coding) which maybe the Tab S does not support. One file with ac3 audio definitely would not play. But like you, I don't understand why some files start to play fine and then suddenly you get that "can't play file" since it seemed to be working initially.

There's an app called MediaInfo. It can tell you the internal coding for audio/video which might help show or explain the differences in the files you converted. Website is:

MediaInfo

Another similar app is Gspot (not salacious!).

(And, frankly, this thread does not seem to get as much action as the Title would have suggested. Maybe when initially posted!).

ok I was told Adobe flash player does not work on this device per Adobe, I need a flash player to watch movies on southwest airlines, I can watch Youtube with no issues, also told to make sure plug ins are enabled as well as javascript but can't find them on the Tab S 10.5 settings, Help.

I just saw the S at Costco. The screen looks sweet. Colors may be over saturated but wow the picture really pops. This may be the only OLED display I can afford in a while.

But then the pro 12 looks pretty sweet too. I figure after tax it's about $80 more. And the s looks small next to it.

How much space is left on a 16gb s model?

I immediately hate the home button. What a horrible design decision to mix a physical button with two capacitive buttons. I kept touching the home button and remembered nope have to press it. Then I jabbed the back button (which is on the wrong side of course) and went ow. It's ridiculous. I'm guessing the home button has the finger scanner? It's still stupid.

Think about us poor slobs who have been using a Playbook for 3 or 4 years. NO buttons really. Swipe the screen from any bezel to the opposite bezel and it comes alive. Want to change app, swipe the open one up to shrink it and tap another open one to open it or tap any icon on the homescreen.

Buttons, who needs them!!!!

Hey all,
Recently got the Tab S 8.4 as my first tablet with Kitkat 4.4.2. I have always used an IPhone, so this is my first Android device and while there are things I am loving about Android, there are also a few things I am yet to get used to. A couple of questions I had that I can't find help online are:

Lock Screen Widgets: I am not too concerned about privacy, so I would like to use lock screen widgets to manage things such as music and get news articles, however I can't seem to activate this feature after going through the settings numerous times.

Download location: I use Samsung Link to move files from my PC to my tablet, but I can't seem to change the location where these files are downloaded to. They are going direct to my tablet rather than the SD card, so I can only transfer a few at a time so the drive doesn't get too full. I would prefer to move them directly to the SD card. Same goes for the uTorrent app as I cant change the download location on that either.

I know there are a few more, but can't think of them at the moment. Overall though, a good device that I am yet to unleash the full potential of.

Sheenie:

I use Windows Explorer when I plug in the usb cable the Tab shows up as a "drive" and it I click on it, both the Tab and the SDcard show up separately and I can navigate around the card and copy/move stuff to it. Of course, if you have a card reader, you could do it more directly with the computer.

And this is my first Android device, too. I'm still with Blackberry devices in the main.

Does this tablet let you adjust the display aside from brightness? Specifically the color temperature, normal, cool, warm, etc

Has anyone seen any image retention or burn in? Dead or stuck pixel?

Thanks

I have not fully explored all of the settings but here's a capture of the main display settings.

I recently purchased the Tab S 10.5. I would like to be able to download photos from my camera's SD card to the tab. I see lots of OTG cables and USB adapters on Amazon, but none are listed as 10.5 compatible. I assume this is because it is a new product. Any recommendations on how to do this? (This is my first tablet.) Thanks.

You can purchase a micro USB to USB adapter and connect it to a USB to SD card reader. Both sold at Best Buy.

I work samsung sales and marketing and our ears are open to the feedback. I have also spent the last few days in BestBuy stores watching the responses of people to them. It has been very good and people are loving them as they should.
I also recommend u try out power saving modes Grey scale option for reading, also ultra power saving mode for over night.

thanks! anything that helps save the battery is awesome!

I'm loving mine and only have it 4 days, lol. Awesome!

My partner had to return hers. She was using it and the battery died. She had the replacement one for four days and babied it (never had the charger plugged in while in use, always had it turned off while one charge) and this one has done the same thing. She was sitting there using it. the battery was at 80% and it just died. Screen went black, wont turn on, wont charge etc. Taking it back :/
My one has run without a hitch so far.

Second question (hopefully not pushing my luck now  ). A main reason I bought the Tab Pro was to play The Simpsons Tapped Out on a large HD screen (yeah I know, a bit mad but I love that game). The game is practically unplayable on the Tab Pro. The animations stutter/lag and the screen becomes non-responsive to tap/touch (EA are apparently aware but are not doing anything about it).

Wow. Thank you, I play that game a lot also, and you're right, it's nearly unplayable, and I don't know what to do about it. Honestly, I'm pretty upset about it. My 2+ year old iPhone 5 is much faster. I really want to know what you find out.
