Have to laugh about the iPhone

The iPhone is good but I just can't stand the fact the fact that there is no customization available. Who wants to see the same thing all the time. Lame. IPhone is a great phone that simply just works but it's in no way for me. Android and HTC FTW.

SuperDave1621, I agree with you wholeheartedly on all points; however, the 4G and free mobile hotspot are enough to make me wait a while longer for HTC and VZ to work out the problems.

I hope your iPhone 5 is all that you want it to be!

Thank you!

When I made the switch I knew I wanted a 4G phone without a doubt. Unfortunately that's the only thing that has kept me throwing my phone out on the freeway haha. I don't believe I get the free hot spot like many do, but it was also a major selling point for me because my gf and I travel alot. Since we don't have a MHS in the car, I figured she could use my phone's hot spot to connect her tablet/laptop and do work or whatever.

I truly hope the new iPhone fits me. Hey the droid may not be for me, but I'm glad to see Apple getting serious competition in the phone market. The droid community is amazing! I'm sure I'll be stopping in just because of awesome you all are! :D

They work flawlessly because they put the developers through heck to get the apps on market. I read of a company that went out of business because Apple drug their heels

Only twice?. I think most of us here wipe it 2 times a month with a new ROM.

I think the texts going to the wrong place isn't the phones fault, I think it is the backend. The UI is amazing....way better than MOTOBLUR. I do agree that the OTA did little to help, but, it did improve some things...in my case, the battery lasts a little longer.

My issue I have with Apple is that they are closed environment. I can't buy and iPhone from HTC or Samsung....there is no competition there so Apple is telling you what YOU can and cannot do. With the ANDROID enviroment, if something doesn't work right.....developers are on it immediately and have a new ROM within days. Yes, you can jailbreak the iPhone (I jailbroke my iTouch) and I got access to the folders.....WOW. There is probably more things I can do with it, but why bother!

Good luck with the iPhone....thanks for trying the TBolt. Try selling it online, you might get a few bucks for it. I do admit, I want an iPAD....because i am also a musician and I do like the apps (Morphwiz, BeBot) they have for it.

I get where you're coming from on all points. One of my reasons for switching dealt with the fact that the droid was more open and free. However, I found myself trying to replicate the iPhone's apps and aesthetic appeal with my droid and I couldn't do it. While one app was available on iPhone, it wasn't (at the time anyways) available on the droid. Sometimes the same app would just "feel" better on the iOS interface when compared to the droid OS. Then again I found some amazing original apps and games on the droid that I definitely couldn't find on the iOS. It's a love/hate relationship at best lol.

I guess the kicker came when I read about the new security vulnerability on HTC droid devices that seemed to be there for absolutely no reason. I don't know if it was a mistake or carelessness, but it really turned everything droid off for me. Again, I want to reiterate, the droid doesn't work for me personally, but that doesn't mean I'm saying it's a bad OS. It's not. I think Android, coupled with the community support, will be a huge player for years to come. I hope you all enjoy your phones and have a wonderful day! Like I said I'll stop by and say hello every once in a while!

I think PhoneArena put it best:

iOS is not an actual OS at all. Much like webOS, it is basically an application launcher with some firmware to support hardware interaction. It is good for those that want minimal upkeep and that want stability. Part of the cause that brings stability to iOS is what also restricts you from customizing the phone further. Less moving parts means less parts to break, right? It gives all the benefit of an app-based smartphone with none of the hassle of a smartphone OS such as BB OS, WinMo, WP7, Android, Symbian, etc. The phone itself is a beautiful balance of software and hardware, making the experience smooth and trouble-free. In theory, at least.

I personally see nothing against the iPhone as a smartphone for either novice-tech people, or someone whom cannot afford the time to mess around a lot with the device. It is actually a great phone. I, however, will never wittingly buy anything from Apple because I detest their practices. Apple made themselves big in the wake of Steve Jobs getting tossed under the bus after a larger software giant took all his ideas and ran. However, in the beautiful phoenix story there is a rotten ending: In the process of rising from the ashes to become great, Apple has become the same type of company that created them. Greedy, elitist, underhanded, and overall arrogant. All billion dollar corporations are the same, including them.

Besides, if a stranger comes up and hands you a half-eaten piece of fruit and tells you its "game-changing" and therefore charges you double what a normal piece of the same fruit costs, would you buy it?

Great post!

I'm actually in the IT field so I basically deal with broken technology all day long. The last thing I want to do is come home and deal with more broken technology at my expense lol. That's why I choose Apple products to be honest. That stupid slogan is actually true...it just works. Although I have to compromise on a lot of things with Apple products, I know that at the end of the day it will work for me. I've had/have 2 Macbook Pros, an iPad, 2 iPhones, and a ton of iPods, and I've experienced, maybe, 5 total problems between all devices in the last 4 years. All issues were small and fixed within a day. My biggest issue was my iPad 2 stopped getting a network signal after a month of use. I took it to the Apple Store and in 10 minutes I walked out with a brand new iPad 2. Not refurbished, no questions asked. They tested it and said it was defective and that was that. Say what you want about Apple as a company, but they do have excellent customer service, hardware, and software. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about HTC at this point and time.

So it's all a personal choice in the end. For me, I want a phone that is reliable and easy to use, and right now that is the iPhone. Maybe I'll come back to the droid in time, but things would have to change drastically.

Thank you!

For my phone i use a rooted Bamf Thunderbolt but for my tablet I finally got an iPad 2 and I freaking LOVE it.

I bought every Android tablet available and retuned them all. finally decided to forget tablets as I couldn't find one i liked and then on a whim tried the iPad...figured why not I tried all the rest. Turns out the iPad is what I was looking for all along. I can even make free wifi phone calls with it using Google Voice and a free app called Talkatone. It's a crazy good device and I even like iOS. I would never own an iPhone since I depend on widgets and love loading custom ROMS....plus I use free wifi hotspot on my TBolt to get free unlimited 4G LTE data on my iPad when I'm out of the house. :D

But for tablets....Android tablets cannot touch the iPad..the build is first class.... aluminum unibody and the amount of apps is crazy. Playing FPS games on it is cool as hell and there truly is an app for anything you might need. You wouldn't believe how some of the devs are shortchanging Android. The CNBC app alone is unbelievably better on iOS. I even get instant push Gmail using a setup method I found on youtube. The damn things even arrive a few seconds before they do on my TBolt. :D

IMO, rooted 4G LTE Android phone + iPad 2 is heaven on Earth. :) and in a couple days when iOS 5 is released I'll even have Android type notifications on my iPad. :D It took me a long time to find the right combo but it was worth the time and effort.

When there is a LTE iPhone with a 4 inch or bigger screen I will switch. It will get good battery life and work correctly out of the box. The iPhone just works where android you need to tinker and lately I'm starting to get tired of having to tinker to fix stuff that should just work. I spend too much time on my phone as it is.

As much as I hate itunes and dislike apple I'm playing the waiting game. 4inch or bigger screen with LTE and im not looking back at android, ill be part of the sheep flock buying a phone that functions correctly.

I never understood the hype about voice to text, every time I used it the darn thing would either misplace or not insert the word I said. I'll stick to typing it in myself.

I don't think I can go back to a 3g phone or smaller then 4 inch screen, soon as apple meets my needs ill be happy. I know the whole LTE and battery life needs some maturing but I bet apple gets it right if they ever go LTE. They seem really into battery life lasting a good amount of time.

They both have their issues and strong points. I used a iPhone before for a while but the bigger screen size is what made me switch to android. I don't care how sharp the screen is a 3.5 inch can't compare to a 4.3 when you do a lot of browsing and multimedia stuff on your phone.

I really hope android improves over the years. The problem I see right now tho is the wrong people in the wrong places. Sure as a company they need to have a base to suit everyone but its a Danny shame when these devs fix stuff before the company who released it does.

I think a couple good devs in the right places would be the best thing to happen to android but sadly it won't happen that way. I appreciate all the hard work the devs do, they simply are the reason why the android fan base is big.

Everywhere you go forum wise there seems to be people who know so much and are very friendly and will help you out. That's the #1 thing android has going for it. As a community we know android isn't perfect and there are some really good people trying to make it better.

Ios is getting better and the phones remain to just work right the way they should. Sure apple isn't as into the whole selection and options way as android is but at the same time they don't have to because they know they have a solid product.

That's the setup I have as well, it works well.

Meanwhile at Google... "hardware acceleration... do we really need it?"

What a killer blow tbat would be. The laggy UI is the big thing holding Android back right now.

You'd be shocked to find out how many Flash videos/sites work on iOS devices because most are also encoded in HTML5, so they play. Embedded Flash videos, etc.., work I would say 90% of the time. The ones that don't can be played using a browser called Photon on iOS. It actually plays full Flash videos the same way you would see it on Android....even the Flash ads at all websites work. :D As an example, you can go to CNN.com and the site runs exactly the way it does on Android. Here is another Flash based site:

http://www.gardenridge.com/

Works exactly the same with iOS using Photon as it does with Android. Photon is not like Skyfire where you have to view Flash in a player...Photon enables Flash just like you would see it on Android.

Myself personally, I don't use Safari, I use Photon so I can watch any video anyone else on any other platform can and get the full internet.

The two knocks I have about iOS is that I cannot change my email ringtone on my iPad and I hate not having drag and drop for my music...have to drop music in iTunes and then sync.

I'm telling you man, I used to be the most rabid iOS hater you could find. I've caught quite a bit of grief from family and friends since buying the iPad because of how vocally anti Apple I have been.

I've come to learn there are pluses and minuses with both platforms and that the truth is that a mix of both is actually the perfect world.

When it comes to tablets the iPad 2 is really great, I'd rather have that then almost any android one.

I agree. But, do you think Apple FANbois would ever have an iPhone and a Android tablet?.....NO!.....LOLOL. See, we are flexible!

I remember a couple years ago when the newest version of the iPhone got copy/paste function, and they actually had TV commercials advertising this as a new amazing smart-phone feature never seen before.

I thought that was pretty funny because Blackberry has been doing copy/paste since before iPhone or Android even existed.

LOL yep. And they invented the cloud this year too.
