Have you gotten you 4.4 OTA?

Noting in N.J. either. Honestly I don't think it goes out by region. It has to do with the internal address of the unit. It would be nice if we get it over the weekend but I think it will be next week at this point.

I have the Nexus7 2nd Gen 2013 and the Nexus10. No Kit Kat in site ...
I do keep looking for it tho .. I'm too lazy to sideload . Lol

Still waiting on the 'legit' download/install here in Toronto. Last OS upgrade required a little jiggery-pokery for the update to initiate, but I'm not seeing any postings for a similar routine this time - while the idea of sideloading gives me the willies. I'd rather Google (and not I) bricked this under warranty device.

;)

They may say it's "rolling" out, but it looks like it's rolling uphill. So far, it doesn't look like anyone has received the official OTA yet.

Try updating your google search app.......I had a pending update for my google search in the playstore yesterday on 11-14-13 and after updating the google search app I now have the new Kit Kat Launcher, it's pretty cool, the "ok google" command works, the UI looks and runs like 4.4 in videos I've seen online but I'm still running 4.3 on my 2012 (WiFi) Nexus 7 (non-rooted). Has this happened to anyone else's Nexus 7?

I'm not getting the OTA here in the Uk, got the 4.3 update as soon as it came out. Beginning to wonder if the 4.3 Update was the last OTA for the Nexus 7 (2012) and further updates are sideload only.

How easy is it to sideload the 4.4 update, & will I loose everything that is on my N7 by sideloading?

Roland

Side-loading is just as "legit" its just loaded differently. I guess if your scared of it just enjoy the soup line and happily wait to be spoon fed your update. I always feel pity on those not confident enough to take control of their devices.

FYI Side-loading has no danger of bricking your device. Your device is meant to be able to do it. It is literally designed for it. Side-loading is safer since it cant get corrupted by WiFi.

Got it first day via side loading. Download from Google and side load easy.

Strange, I downloaded the Search update, and my launcher looks exactly the same as before?

I think you need to download the Google Experience Launcher APK. Here's the link: GoogleHome . The new update just had the APK built in, but to activate it you have to sideload that APK.

Thanks so much, worked perfectly!

No OTA yet in Florida for my 2012 Nexus 7. Love Kit Kat on my new Nexus 5 that now let's me leave my old N7 at home when I go to sports bars. But I want to play with ART under 4.4 on my N7 before trusting it on my new N5. I sure hope ART helps my battery on my 2012 N7.

From Manitoba, Canada:

Been hitting the "Check for updates" button twice a day since they announced the OTAs. Nothing, even with clearing cache/data for framework services. This morning I was awake early, and figured I'd just download the factory image and do it myself.

No joy. Download failed on my desktop (4 different attempts, 2 different browsers).

BTW, tablet is rooted but running stock 4.3. I was going to unroot and see if it would snag the update that way, but I didn't bother when I couldn't download the factory image anyway. I'm out of town all next week so maybe by next weekend I'll have an update waiting for me!

Oh, don't 'pity' me - not afraid of jumping the queue when its necessary. And I can handle sharp sharp cutlery, too - not just wait to be spoon fed. But really, this is far from necessary. Its an upgrade (not a critical patch) to a device that isn't even my secondary bit of daily tech kit.

Meanwhile, I have done minor sideloading - for example, Flash onto my Nexus 7 (if only so I can access TV streaming websites via Firefox that have not yet built an Android app), but that was completely straightforward and done completely onboard the device.
But to entertain doing sillery-buggery multiple button pushing at just the right moment to access hidden controls and / or wipe my device harkens me back to old Palm days. Layer that with geeky access to Terminal to unpack and then install over to the device and, well...its ain't a priority.

It seems more than a pity that Google doesn't supply the OS upgrade via it's own online Google Play Store, say, along the lines of (dare I say it) Apple's iTunes or Mac App Store. Plug your Nexus into your computer, choose the OS Upgrade and let it all download and install via the Store. Google's servers permitting, this would seem to be a way they could get the OS out to their users quickly - as in as soon as it was announced and released - securely and relatively brick-free, especially if users have sometimes dodgy OTA connectivity.

For users having to wait for Google to choose when the devices should get an upgrade that they are eligible for is bad PR. And it only encourages amateurs and cowboys to do something wrong and / or inadvertently install a wrong / corrupted file.
