Having problems with YouTube picture-in-picture feature

Every time I use the YouTube app, the video always minimizes itself. It's especially annoying when I am watching a video in fullscreen horizontal mode, and the video minimizes 3 or 4 times within a 2 minute video. I have tried disabling the picture-in-picture feature, but then when I enabled that feature again it wouldn't go to picture-in-picture again for awhile. Then when picture-in-picture started working again, it started randomly minimizing the video again. How can I get rid of the constant random minimized effect? I would like to be able to watch a video in fullscreen horizontal mode without having to maximize the video over and over again. It's getting old.

PS - I use an AT&T Galaxy s8. I don't know for sure, but maybe this is an issue with Android 8.0 software. Who knows...

Are you sure you're not hitting any buttons? Home or Multi-tasking? What about any apps or notifications coming through showing over the YouTube app when the 'random' PiP happens?

I have no issues on Android 8, but I'm not using an ATT S8, so it might still be a bug for that specific ROM.

Have you tried clearing the YouTube app's cache/data if the above doesn't work? Do any other PiP-enabled apps (like Netflix) exhibit this behavior or just YT?

Hi Rebekkah,
I too have had this issue on multiple android tablets: My Google Pixel C and My Samsung Tab S3. Sometimes I'll be watching youtube, fall asleep and when I wake up, the youtube app is in pip model in the lower right. It's also happened mid-use. It's super annoying. You can disable Picture in Picture per app. This is how I got it to stop since I rarely ever use PIP anyway. Here is a link to an article; About half way down it shows how to disable per app. The last step might vary for you, as it did me, but once you get to the app settings, you'll be able to figure out where to go.

Hi George,
Yes, that is what I specified. Just disabling the setting in the YouTube app is enough to take care of the issue.
