Having trouble turning off Autocorrect

I'd like to do stuff like type in acronyms and press space without them being corrected. I've gone to Settings - Language & Input - Android Keyboard and turned Auto correction off. Didn't work. I go to type in a note, type UWO and press space, and it changes to YEP.

I've turned off the spell checker, the "Show correction suggestions", and Next Word Predicton. None of it worked.

Please help!

(I do know that I can just tap on the "UWO" above the keyboard in order to correct it, but I still want autocorrect turned off)

Your stuck with it because you have already done all the right things unless your using a different keyboard than the Android one.

Is that an option, to use a different keyboard? Could it be that my phone came installed with a separate keyboard app? Perhaps I can override it by downloading a new one.

If you use a different keyboard there will be settings for each keyboard so maybe another keyboard will listen to your settings better.
