HC - Apps won't install from sd card

I installed HC on my NC. Running OK. Market apps are installing OK. Non-market apps won't install from sd card. I have tried selecting and unselecting "allow non-market apps" from the setting - rebooting after trying different things. I can easily copy the apps to my sd card using Samba filesharing app over my home network, but once they are on the sd card, I click 'install' and all i get is a message the the app did not install - no clues as to why. I'm so frustrated. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Did you try AppInstaller from market? It reads sideloaded apps and installs them from SD card.
