HDMI passthrough degrades video quality?

I just got done reading a review of the revue and one thing really disturbed me. the reviewer on a trusted AV site said he was 99% sure it degraded his video quality.

If I get one I was thinking of putting it after my receiver so the interface would be over everything. I will not if its going to affect quality, may even change purchase choice.

can anyone speak to this. I'm also curiouse if the Sony box is different or better in that regard.

TBH I don't see the degrading of the picture, I have my Revue since launch connected to a 55" Samsung 1080P and the picture is great be it coming through my AT&T Uverse or my BluRay and I never see a drop in picture quality. There was some issues at launch mostly on live sports events but the first upgrade resolved that.

What is apparent is that the 5.1 surround is downgraded to Stereo but this will be something that should / will be corrected through a SW upgrade.

some set top boxes do not play well when more than 2 hdmi cable chains are used.
and hdmi multi channel audio passthru on the revue is still not working. so connect your set top hdmi into revue and then hdmi from revue to tv and not av.then connect optical out to av and set inputs accordingly. this works great with no degradation of video or audio. only downside is lack of 7.1 support for media files.

I have U Verse and dont see a degrade of the picture, but my only problem is that none of the channels will show as widescreen, is there a setting that I need to change or something like that?

I think there is something going on. I can see ghosting of previous images when the screen goes black. I have a Dish Network 622 connected to the revue connected to a samsung ln52a630. No it's not the TV because this doesn't happen with the 622 connected directly to the tv. I can't imagine that the ghosting problem only occurs when the screen is black, meaning that it occurs all the time and degrades the video slightly.

I'm planning on dumping satellite and the pq isn't a factor when streaming video over the internet because it's always crappy compared to 1080i broadcast using sat or ota.

I have DirecTV and the HD signals going through my HD DVR retained the same quality. I don't see any noticeable video degradation. I have it connected as designed. HD DVR to Revue to AV Receiver to TV.

I have my Revue hooked up to Comcast cable thru HDMI to my 40" Samsung LCD and I have not noticed a change in picture quality.

This is how I have my system setup. It works really well. I think with HDCP, chaining HDMI cables would be a b!tch.

Just noticed that this thread had some new life. I have since gotten a Revue after the price drop. I did not hook it up after my receiver, it only overlays my Tivo. I have looked at it with a very critical eye and cannot see any real difference in image quality. I am actually very impressed with the Revue as it stands now. The only thing I would really like to see beyond the obvious update is the ability to search my Tivo's DVR. There is a new android app that lets you control and search your DVR that is great. I think it would be very easy to add Tivo to the search functionality as is available on Dish DVR.

I noticed when not plugged into the revue box my t.v. will say 1080I. When plugged into the revue it reads 1080P when turning on.
I think the picture quality looks great from the Directv BE box.
