Headphone output sound quality

I have a white 32 gig preordered from Verizon and my question to those who have the device already from other carriers is how the headphone output is regarding sound quality and basically how loud it is. I currently have a thunderbolt and sound is flat and not nearly as loud as my (I don't want to bring another iDevice comparison into the forums but headphone sound quality is very important to me) iPod touch. When I first purchased my thunderbolt I fell in love with the idea of carrying my music collection in my 32 gig card and not carry 2 devices with me. Sadly that wasn't the case.

And yes I tried poweramp, dsp manager, other eq apps and all it would do is make my $300 headphones sound like crap.

I almost bought a rezound on CL because of the BEATS hardware but heard about the S3 and held off on the rezound.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I guess ill just have to wait for mine to come in to do a.review with differnt outputs. Bluetooth, headphones, DLNA, etc

My international version sounds great - but it has a different DAC to the US version.

Stock headphones are okay but nothing special, my sennehiser CX 300s are better I think

I just received my Verizon gs3 today and the sound is much improved from my ailing thunderbolt I just retired. The first thing I noticed is that it seems a good bit louder to my ears. I haven't tried any tweaks yet, just streaming music from Google play so far. I'm really happy with the upgrade at this point

I don't know about your $300 pair of headsets but I have 8 different pairs of IEM's at home and they all have various levels of loudness at the same output level on my gear (MP3 player, Laptop, Cell, etc...). I always pick the loudest ones with the best sound quality. Sounds like your pair of headsets require an amp to properly play them to your liking.

The sound quality isn't terrible. It just isn't beats audio either. The volume definitely gets loud enough. However, clarity leaves much to be desired. If I didn't have an iPod/iPhone from which to listen to music, I wouldn't mind using the GSIII for my main music consumption, but since I don't have to, I won't. No shots here. I just stating how I feel.

I will post back after I give my bose headphones a try when I get home this evening.

FWIW I find the overall headphone quality (stock, i.e. w/o Volume + etc...) to be quite good. In fact, I think it sounds better than both my Rezound (beats eq off) and my GNex.

So far I've used my beats, some crappy skull candy buds and my Bose qc3's and they've all performed well.

I have found the quality to be pretty decent as well. The stock headphones leave a lot to be desired as I find them to be lacking any depth, but the phone sounds good through my NOCS NS400's. Just got a pair of NS200's as well (for the mic and button support) and once they get broken in a bit I will comment on them.

Beats audio phones just have a proprietary eq setting in the stock music player...you can get that quality with any phone with eq capabilities

As far as this phone, I get better quality than my zune and ipod with my eq set in power amp.

I agree, I've tried decent but cheap JVC HAFX67W, and my Woodees Vintage thus far. Much brighter than the GN, and louder w/ a touch more clarity. I have yet to try any of my big hitters, AKG, Sennheiser, Grado, or Ultrasone. I normally use a portable amp though when I do the big cans.
